Our team of experts is committed to sustainability, safety, and advancing port and terminal operations through cutting-edge engineering solutions.

Position: Lead Engineer Ports & Terminals

Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly qualified Lead Engineer specializing in Ports & Terminals, with extensive experience in marine infrastructure, bulk and container terminals, and associated facilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in structural, civil, and marine engineering, with a proven track record in leading large-scale port and terminal projects. This role is essential in ensuring compliance with international and Canadian industry standards while driving innovation in port and terminal design and operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engineering Leadership: Provide expert guidance on marine engineering principles, terminal layout planning, and hydrodynamic assessments for port and terminal projects, with a focus on the Alberta and British Columbia markets.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs and operations comply with relevant Canadian and provincial standards, including:
    • Transport Canada Marine Safety regulations.
    • Canadian Port Authorities Act.
    • International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards.
    • Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA) for port developments.
    • BC Environmental Assessment Act and Port Metro Vancouver regulations.
  • Infrastructure Development: Lead the engineering design of ports, berthing structures, cargo handling facilities, and dredging plans, ensuring efficiency and sustainability for projects in Alberta and British Columbia.
  • Project Management: Oversee feasibility studies, conceptual designs, detailed engineering, and construction support for port and terminal projects, particularly in the Port of Vancouver, Prince Rupert, and Alberta inland terminals.
  • Technical Expertise: Conduct hydrodynamic modeling, wave and current analysis, and structural evaluations for piers, wharves, and breakwaters in BCs coastal environments and Albertas inland waterways.
  • Risk Assessment: Evaluate and develop mitigation strategies for structural integrity, vessel berthing safety, and environmental impact concerns specific to BC and Alberta.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including marine operations, logistics, and regulatory stakeholders, to optimize port and terminal design in Western Canada.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with port authorities, government agencies, and private sector clients to ensure alignment with operational and regulatory requirements, particularly in Port Metro Vancouver, Prince Rupert Port Authority, and Albertas inland logistics hubs.
  • Field Participation: Conduct site assessments, supervise geotechnical and hydrographic surveys, and support construction activities as required.
  • Innovation & Sustainability: Identify and implement sustainable solutions, such as electrification of port operations, automated cargo handling, and eco-friendly dredging techniques, with a focus on green port initiatives in BC and sustainable logistics solutions in Alberta.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Marine Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field; Masters degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience in ports, terminals, or marine infrastructure engineering, with expertise in structural design, port layout, and cargo handling systems, particularly in Alberta and BC.
  • Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in marine structural analysis, dredging and reclamation planning, berthing energy analysis, and hydrodynamic modeling.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, SAP2000, PLAXIS, MIKE 21, or similar engineering tools.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience in presenting complex technical concepts to stakeholders.
  • Travel Flexibility: Willingness to travel to project sites and client locations as required across BC and Alberta.

If you meet these qualifications and are passionate about shaping the future of port and terminal infrastructure in Western

Canada, we encourage you to apply.
