Position:Tourism Marketing Summer StudentStart Date:May 5, 2025Employment Status:Summer Student (up to 16 weeks)Reporting To:Director of Economic Development and TourismUnion Affiliation:Non-union Posting Date:March 27, 2025Closing DateApril 7, 2025 at 8:30 amContract Duration:May 5, 2025 – August 29, 2025Position Summary:Perth County is recruiting for the position of Tourism Marketing Summer Student to assist the Tourism Officer with implementing various strategic marketing campaigns and tourism promotion initiatives to stimulate Perth County's visitor economy. This role will also support tourism marketing efforts through social media management and content creation.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Create engaging content for Perth County Tourism's social media accounts and website, including photos, videos, graphics, etc.
  • Write and blog posts to promote Perth County destinations and experiences
  • Monitor analytics and outcomes of social media and online campaigns
  • Provide marketing support to promote local businesses, destinations, and events
  • Actively provide support for special projects including tourism media campaigns, experiential tourism development, agritourism projects, etc.
  • Liaise with residents, visitors, local operators and businesses as required
  • Distribute marketing materials such as the Tourism Brochure and Farm Gate Map to businesses around Perth County
  • Provide a range of information on local resources, amenities, activities and events to visitors
  • Enhance the overall online presence of the Perth County Tourism brand
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
  • Ensure that Occupational Health and Safety practices and County of Perth policies and procedures are adhered to; wear any personal protective equipment required to ensure personal safety and report any known hazards and/or incidents in the workplace to immediate Supervisor
Qualifications:
  • University or College student with interest in digital media, marketing, public relations and tourism
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and professional ability to interact with the public
  • Strong technology and digital marketing skills
  • Ability to multi-task and establish priorities
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Expertise with social media platforms including but not limited to Facebook, X, Instagram and YouTube
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have reliable access to a vehicle
Shift:Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (35 hours per week)
Occasional work during evenings and weekends may be required
Hourly Rate:$18.73

To be eligible for summer student employment, applicants must meet one of the following:
  • Be a full-time secondary or post-secondary student at an accredited institution.
  • Be recognized as having a full-time status by their academic institution while applying for school vacation, practicum or work term, or planning to return to full-time studies in the next academic term.
  • Be in their final year of study and not planning to return to full-time studies, but still eligible for summer student employment until they graduate.
Students participating in education and retraining programs at the post-secondary level, though not full-time students, are eligible for related summer student employment opportunities, where appropriate.
