Job Description

The County of Grande Prairie No. 1 Regional Enforcement Services department is a multidisciplinary law enforcement agency dedicated to improving community safety, traffic safety, and infrastructure safety through proactive patrols, cooperative partnerships, crime prevention, education, and community policing initiatives. Rural crime is a provincial government priority as well as an ongoing County concern. The Community Safety Coordinator is the primary conduit between the County, the Police and other Law Enforcement, Crime Prevention Groups, and the community.

Reporting to the General Manager, Community Services and the Superintendent, Regional Enforcement Services, the Coordinator would be tasked with being in a leading role with the Crime Prevention Committee, aiding in completing the Community Safety Strategy, taking CPTED training, attending crime prevention/reduction conferences and training, and recommending/implementing cutting edge crime reduction strategies. The coordinator would work to identify community safety groups and stakeholders, set up conversation cafes, and deliver crime prevention messaging and training to the community.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for researching, developing, implementing, promoting, and evaluating Crime Prevention programs/projects/initiatives and apps. These include but are not limited to CPTED, Project Lock-Up, Project Cold Start, Capture program, Neighbourhood Watch, Alberta Rural Crime Watch app, Crimestoppers and Crimestoppers app, RCMP app, RCMP RAVE app.
  • Serve as a part of the County Crime Prevention Committee.
  • Attending Crime Prevention Conferences to learn and bring back cutting edge solutions that may work in our community.
  • Assist in the development of a County Community Wellness and Safety Strategy. This includes an inventory of programs, services, agencies, and partners.
  • Work with the Crime Prevention Committee to create a “County CrimeSmart” database.
  • Serve as the lead to set up and host two hybrid in-person and virtual east and west County crime prevention information sessions in 2024.
  • Serve as the County's liaison between the Crime Prevention Committee, Law Enforcement, Crime Prevention groups (Rural Crime Watch, Neighbourhood Watch, and COP), and the Community.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for small neighbourhood “Community Crime Cafes”.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications
  • Grade 12 diploma and two-year diploma in law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License and Clean Abstract
  • Able to successfully pass a criminal record check and obtain RCMP enhanced reliability screening.
  • Experience with crime prevention and policing is an asset.

Additional Information

This is a One Year term position with an expected end date of April 30, 2026.

Work Schedule:

This position works Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm for 35 hours per week.

Hourly Pay: $45.73 to $53.81 per hour
