Position Summary
Reporting to the Fleet Manager, the Driver will be responsible for providing driving services to various departments. This could include transporting Health clients to their appointments, or driving our students to field trips, community events and more all in a comfortable, safe, and timely manner.
Driver responsibilities include regular cleaning and maintenance services for the vehicle, planning each route based on road and traffic conditions.
This is a part time position working 21+ hours a week.
What you'll do
Patient Travel:
- Ensure safe, timely transit for medical patients.
- Patient assistance, including but not limited to wheelchair support and paperwork management.
- Transporting patients to and from medical facilities safely and efficiently
- Assisting patients in and out of vehicles, ensuring their comfort and safety
- Responding to emergency situations calmly and efficiently
- Always maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy
- Ensure that only registered patients, clients, and Elders on the predetermined attendance list aboard the vehicle.
- Responsible for regulating heating, lighting, and ventilation systems for the comfort of the passengers.
Driving/Vehicle Maintenance
- Ensure the car seats are clean and comfortable for all riders.
- Inspect the delivery vehicle regularly and report any issues.
- Listen to traffic and weather reports to stay up to date on road conditions.
- Keeping accurate records of each transportation, including destination and time
- Performing routine vehicle maintenance and keeping the vehicle clean and presentable
- Following all traffic laws and regulations while driving
- Ensure daily and weekly cleaning procedures are met included but not limited to.
- Daily disposal of all garbage, wiping surfaces, etc.
- Weekly; outside power wash and inside dusting, vacuuming, etc.
- Keep copies of all pre/post-trip reports, mileage logs, etc.
- Responsible for maintaining safety standards. This includes boarding and exiting procedures.
- Complete fueling and top of fluids as required.
Other Duties
- Additional responsibilities as needed to support the community and uphold our shared values.
What you Bring
Qualifications
- Must have a Class 5 License with a clean driving record.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- 2+ years driving experience.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, scheduling systems and procedures, and other automobiles.
- Possesses a Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate.
Cultural Competency:
- Understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and contemporary issues.
- Experience working within Indigenous communities and applying culturally safe practices.
Preferred
- Indigenous candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Lived experience as a member of a First Nations community.
- Proven knowledge and understanding of Seabird Islands culture, traditions, teachings, and community dynamics, particularly as they relate to children and families.
- Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
- Time management skills to ensure timely pick-ups and drop-offs.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful driving situations
- Basic maintenance knowledge to fix any simple mechanical problems that may occur unexpectedly while on the road.
Working / Special Conditions
- Initial and ongoing employment is subject to submission of a clear Criminal Record Review Program Check to ensure the safety and trust of the communities we serve. This check will be conducted every five years.
