ABOUT MAMAWAY WIIDOKDAADWIN
Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin is part of the BANAC service structure. As an Interprofessional Care Team, Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin team members support the region by providing traditional healing, primary care, mental health and health promotion services to Indigenous community members. Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin works with an interprofessional team to support community members to address mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being. Our primary care team provides services in the community, in clinic locations, and through collaboration with Indigenous and mainstream service partners.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
The Overnight Peer Support Worker is a key member of the Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin Live-In Healing Program, providing a culturally safe and trauma-informed healing space for Indigenous individuals in recovery from addictions. This role requires on-site overnight presence for one week per month, offering peer support, crisis intervention, and on-call support as needed. The Overnight Peer Support Worker ensures a safe and supportive environment by engaging with participants as needed, offering a calming presence, and responding to any concerns that may arise overnight. This role works collaboratively with the programs interprofessional team, ensuring seamless communication and continuity of care between day and night staff, while offering guidance and helping participants feel grounded and supported throughout their healing journey.
Morning Procedures:
The Overnight Peer Support Worker will assist clients with morning routines, including waking up, morning preparations, and getting ready for the day. They will support the preparation and facilitation of assigned morning procedures in a calm and structured environment. This role plays a vital part in ensuring clients are prepared and on time for their first treatment of the day.
Overnight Shifts:
The Live-In Healing program provides live-in support for individuals in recovery while they participate in treatment. The Overnight Peer Support Worker will have scheduled overnight shifts to provide support to clients from the hours of 11:00 PM -9:00 AM. As part of this role, the Overnight Peer Support Worker will complete the overnight procedures and provide a short shift change report to daytime staff at the end of their shift.
What You Bring:
- Experience providing peer support, mentorship, or crisis intervention in a professional, community, or lived-experience capacity.
- Experience collaborating with Indigenous communities and clients with demonstrated ability to work cross-culturally.
- Ability to provide Indigenous culturally safe, trauma-informed care and services while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Strong understanding of Indigenous cultural values, traditions, and history, with the ability to integrate Indigenous perspectives into services.
- Excellent crisis intervention skills with the ability to respond calmy and effectively to emotional distress and conflict.
- Superior interpersonal skills, including active listening, empathy, and the ability to foster a sense of safety and trust.
- Ability to respect individuals' experiences and foster healing, creating a supportive and inclusive environment for participants.

Work is typically performed on site at the Live-In Healing residence and facility, Ontario Class G Drivers License and access to a reliable vehicle an asset
Regular overtime work may be required from time to time
Periodic exposure to smoke may occur from the burning of sacred medicines: Tobacco, sweet grass, sage or cedar.
Specific employment conditions are specified in an employment contract with BANAC and include the following:

Valid C.P.R. and A.E.D. Certificates required
Valid Class G Ontario Drivers License is required with clear check for vulnerable sector
