Key ResponsibilitiesProvide technical leadership and mentorship to intermediate and junior process engineers and global workshare resources.Lead the design, review, and execution of SAGD and heavy oil projects across all engineering phases, including Feasibility and Process Studies, Conceptual Design, DBM Development, FEED, and Detailed Engineering Design.Develop and validate process simulations and modeling for SAGD and heavy oil infrastructure.
- Author, review, and stamp critical design documents, including material balances, PFDs, P&IDs, shutdown keys, control narratives and Process Engineering reports.
- Perform line hydraulics, transient analysis, and other related pipeline calculations.
- Supervise and validate line sizing, PSV sizing, and the development of equipment process data sheets.
- Oversee and participate in P&ID and PHA (HAZOP) reviews and ensure compliance with safety and operational requirements.
- Provide expert-level guidance on below ground pipelines, above ground pipelines, well pads, and Central Processing Facilities.
- Ensure regulatory compliance by adhering to API, ASME, ISO, and other industry standards.
- Manage project discipline budgets, schedules, and risk assessments, ensuring alignment with client expectations.
- Collaborate effectively with PMPE, technical disciplines, vendors, clients, and other stakeholders to advance project deliverables and resolve complex engineering challenges.
- Offer technical support during facility commissioning, start-up, and operational troubleshooting and optimization.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Extensive expertise in SAGD and heavy oil pipeline and facility design, including below-ground pipelines, above-ground pipelines, well pads, and Central Processing Facilities.
- Strong knowledge of process safety, risk management, and regulatory compliance within the SAGD and heavy oil sector.
- Proficiency in HYSYS and other relevant simulation software, such as PipeFlo, PipeSim, PipeSys, and UniSim.
Note: Experience with OLGA and Stoner is considered an asset.
- Exceptional technical leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proven capability to manage multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail and operational efficiency.
- Commitment to mentorship and the professional development of junior engineers and global workshare staff, fostering technical growth and knowledge transfer.
- Thorough understanding of applicable Canadian Codes and Standards.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Diplomatic and client-focused approach, with a dedication to maintaining positive client relationships.
- Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) designation with APEGA in good standing.
- Chemical Engineering degree from an accredited Post Secondary institution.
- A minimum 12 years of industry experience involved in SAGD and heavy oil Process Engineering.
- A proven track record of leading Process Engineering teams and executing a wide variety of SAGD and heavy oil projects.
- Experience within an EPCM environment.
- Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) designation with EGBC.
