Job Summary
Reporting to the Executive VP,. Finance, the Accounting Manager will oversee all accounting functions for multiple supporting entities, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and provide financial insights to support decision-making. They will manage the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, preparing financial reports, and collaborating with other departments to streamline financial processes. They will also assist in providing indirect oversight for accounts receivable and accounts payable functions of the other business units within the group.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the accounts receivable, cash receipts, collections, accounts payable, and cash disbursement functions, ensuring that all transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner as outlined in the accounting procedures
- Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for multiple entities.
- Develop and monitor budgets and forecasts in collaboration with leadership.
- Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and industry-specific regulations, including tax filings and HST/GST remittances.
- Track and report on accounts receivable and accounts payable KPIs for all group companies
- Assist other business units with accounts receivable collection issues as required.
- Track and monitor intercompany collections for the group, ensuring that business units are complying with intercompany payment policies
- Coordinate with external auditors during audits and ensure timely resolution of audit findings.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals.
- Assign tasks, monitor performance, and foster a culture of accountability and excellence.
- Identify inefficiencies in accounting processes and implement improvements.
- Leverage accounting software to automate workflows and enhance accuracy.
- Other ad-hoc projects and duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a management role.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field;
- Experience in the construction or infrastructure industry is a strong asset.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial modeling.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and timeliness.
- Proactive and results-driven with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Adaptable to a fast-paced environment and able to work under pressure.
