Job Title: Mobile Equipment & Safety Trainer


Reporting directly to Skeena's Health & Safety Manager, the Mobile Equipment & Safety Trainer is responsible for delivering high-quality equipment training, including instruction on standard operating procedures (SOPs) and various pieces of mobile equipment. This ensures the competency and professional development of equipment operators, while also maximizing equipment utilization and enhancing production safety. The Mobile Equipment & Safety Trainer will also provide essential regulatory safety training, such as fall protection and confined space training.


Responsibilities (including but not limited to):


Safety Participation and Risk Management
• Actively engages in safety initiatives, toolbox meetings, hazard identification, and incident investigations to enhance workplace safety.


Operator Training and Development
• Delivers training and coaching to operators on the safe and efficient operation of all mobile equipment, encompassing both classroom and hands-on fieldwork.


Competency Assessments and Feedback
• Conducts initial and ongoing competency assessments of equipment operators, providing valuable feedback to operators, supervisors, and superintendents to ensure high standards of performance.


Training Session Coordination
• Assists with scheduling, organizing, and coordinating training sessions, including securing venues, arranging necessary equipment, and handling logistical support and travel adjustments.


Skill Evaluation and Continuous Development
• Evaluates operators' capabilities in safely operating equipment and performing day-to-day activities, with a focus on skill development and safety.


Required Safety Training
• Provides mandatory safety training, including orientations, fall protection, confined space entry, and other specialized training courses.


Documentation and Reporting
• Maintains accurate records of competency assessments, ensuring all documentation is up-to-date and easily accessible.


Learning Management System (LMS) Administration
• Imports and tracks training data within the LMS, including course creation, updating user accounts, and generating reports to monitor training progress.


Training Action Plans
• Develops and implements personalized training action plans for operators requiring further education, coaching, or improvement.


Development of Future Training Programs
• Assists in the creation and development of future computer-based learning and training programs to enhance training effectiveness and accessibility.


Continuous Improvement and Program Innovation
• Actively participates in continuous improvement initiatives, contributing to the development and implementation of new training programs and strategies within the department.


Training Program Feedback and Communication
• Provides regular updates and feedback to mine operations supervisors on the effectiveness of training programs, their outcomes, and any logistical issues.


Onboarding and New Hire Integration
• Supports the onboarding process for new hires, ensuring they are properly trained and integrated into their roles.


Collaboration with Mine Operations
• Works collaboratively with the Mine Operations department to align training with production goals and ensure operational efficiency.


Additional Responsibilities

• Promote and sustain a strong safety culture across all levels of the organization.
• Perform other duties as reasonably assigned.


The Ideal Candidate


Education / Qualifications:
• Certification as a Trainer or relevant teaching certifications (e.g., MIHR CMCP Evaluator, Train the trainer certification) is an asset
Experience / Skills
• Minimum of five plus (5+) years of experience in mining, construction, and/or drilling,
• Experience in delivering training packages, utilizing learning theories/styles appropriate to the workforce,
• In-depth knowledge of the safe operation of standard open pit heavy equipment in a mining environment
• Safety Certifications, such as Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry, and others are considered an asset,
• Valid open pit Shiftboss Certificate is considered an asset
• Adult training experience in relevant fields is considered an asset,
• Proficient user of Microsoft Office Suite and audio/visual presentation equipment,
• Operating knowledge of Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in BC,
• Detail oriented with excessive attention to detail
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Exhibits a high degree of responsibility for confidential matters
• Effective team player who can jump in wherever is needed
• Strong interpersonal and reasoning skills, with proven problem-solving abilities
• Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as with others

Work Location & Conditions
This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.
The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena's Travel Policy.
There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.

CompensationThe expected salary range for this position is CAD $100,000 - $130,000/year in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines and any job offer received by a candidate will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant education, training, and/or experience.
