Hazelwood Finance, a division of The Hazelwood Group, is seeking a full-time Corporate Accountant to join our team in Nanaimo, BC.

Compensation

  • $75,000 to $95,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

Summary

Reporting to and working under the direction of the CFO, the Corporate Accountant will act as a key financial resource across our group of companies. This role involves collaborating with our operating company accountants to support essential deliverables, including month-end processes, financial statement preparation, budgeting, reconciliations, consolidations, and audit preparation. The ideal candidate will function as a financial utility knife, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across our companies.

Job Duties

  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements to assess the financial health of the organization.
  • Collaborate with operating company accountants to support month-end close processes and working papers.
  • Assist in the preparation of consolidated financial reports and reconciliations.
  • Support the development and maintenance of company budgets, forecasting financial trends based on historical data.
  • Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal tax regulations, including accurate tax filings and timely payments.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls to prevent fraud, misrepresentation, and financial mismanagement.
  • Aid in year-end audit preparation by ensuring all financial records and statements are accurate and compliant with audit requirements.
  • Maintain and enforce corporate financial policies and procedures to ensure consistency and compliance across the organization.
  • Provide financial insights and analysis to support decision-making processes within the company.
  • Perform additional duties as required to support financial operations across the Hazelwood Group.
  • Other duties as assigned from time to time these job duties will be reviewed and may be altered to suit the needs of the Finance Department.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in corporate accounting, financial reporting, or a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards, tax laws, and compliance regulations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy in financial record-keeping.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple business units and manage competing priorities.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable, with a proactive approach to addressing financial challenges.
