As a Civil Engineering Trainee II, you will contribute to the planning and execution of civil engineering projects, working alongside experienced engineers, technologists, and project managers.
The ideal candidate will work out of our Kitchener office, but SBM may consider candidates for our London office.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the preparation of civil engineering designs and technical documentation, including grading, servicing, stormwater management, and erosion control plans
  • Coordinate project tasks with internal design teams and external consultants
  • Support the preparation and review of tender/contract documents
  • Participate in contract administration and assist with construction review tasks
  • Conduct background research, support design development, and compile technical reports
  • Provide input on project schedules, deliverables, and design coordination
  • Attend site investigations and contribute to field review documentation when required
  • Engage in interdisciplinary coordination with structural, mechanical, and landscape teams
  • Take initiative in learning new design tools, regulations, and technical standards
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to design discussions
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Civil Team Lead or Division Manager

Skills / Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited Canadian university (or equivalent)
  • 2+ years of relevant civil design or consulting experience preferred
  • Registered as an EIT with Professional Engineers Ontario (or eligible)
  • Familiarity with the Planning Act, Ontario Building Code, and municipal design guidelines
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and AutoCAD; Civil 3D experience considered a strong asset
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Team-oriented with a willingness to take direction and learn from others
  • Adaptable and able to manage shifting priorities across multiple projects
  • Interest in long-term growth, with a goal of progressing to an EIT III or P.Eng. role
