Position: Lead Engineer Ports & TerminalsWhat Youll Do:
Were looking for an experienced Lead Engineer to take charge of Ports & Terminals projects across British Columbia and Alberta. If you have a strong background in marine infrastructure, bulk and container terminals, and port operations, this role offers the opportunity to lead large-scale projects while driving innovation in Western Canadas port and terminal industry.
- Be the Technical Expert Lead the design and engineering of ports, berths, marine structures, and cargo handling facilities, ensuring operational efficiency and long-term durability.
- Navigate Regulations Ensure all designs and operations align with industry standards and Canadian regulations, including:
- Transport Canada Marine Safety and Canadian Port Authorities Act
- International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards
- Canadian and BC Environmental Assessment Acts
- Port Metro Vancouver and Prince Rupert Port Authority requirements
- Develop Smart Infrastructure Oversee feasibility studies, master planning, and engineering for coastal ports, inland terminals, and intermodal facilities across BC and Alberta.
- Optimize Marine Operations Conduct hydrodynamic modeling, structural assessments, and berthing energy analysis to improve vessel safety and port efficiency.
- Lead with Innovation Implement sustainable solutions like shore power, automated cargo handling, and eco-friendly dredging techniques for greener port operations.
- Be a Key Decision Maker Manage projects from concept to construction, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, port authorities, and stakeholders to align technical solutions with operational needs.
- Build Relationships That Matter Work closely with government agencies, private sector clients, and port operators to develop ports that support the growth of trade and logistics in Western Canada.
- Get Hands-On Conduct site assessments, oversee geotechnical and hydrographic surveys, and provide technical support during construction and commissioning phases.
- A Strong Background Bachelors degree in Civil, Marine, or Structural Engineering (Masters degree preferred).
- Proven Experience At least 10 years working on port, marine, or terminal infrastructure projects, with hands-on experience in design, construction, and operations.
- Technical Expertise Proficiency in marine structural analysis, hydrodynamic modeling, dredging, and reclamation planning.
- Software Skills Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, SAP2000, PLAXIS, MIKE 21, or similar engineering tools.
- Project Leadership Ability to manage teams, coordinate stakeholders, and drive projects to successful completion.
- Communication & Collaboration Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders.
- Flexibility to Travel Willingness to visit project sites across BC and Alberta as needed.
