Industry: Residential and Commercial Wall Panels and Building Components Manufacturing
Prime Fab, a division of Triumph Group, is a leading manufacturer of residential and commercial wall panels and building components. We are seeking an experienced Architectural Technologist with a strong background in estimating and cost management to join our team. This role is perfect for a detail-oriented technologist who enjoys combining technical expertise with financial oversight in the design and construction process.
In this position, the Architectural Technologist will be primarily responsible for producing accurate cost estimates and managing project budgets throughout the design and manufacturing process. You will work closely with the design and production teams to ensure cost-effective solutions while maintaining high-quality standards. Strong experience in estimating and working with construction drawings is essential, with a focus on panelized building systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cost Estimation & Budgeting: Lead the development of detailed cost estimates for projects, from initial design through to manufacturing and installation. This includes producing estimates for labor, materials, and overhead costs, ensuring alignment with project budgets.
- Design & Working Drawings: Assist in the preparation and conversion of design drawings into working and shop drawings, while ensuring the cost implications are clearly understood and accounted for in the design process.
- Collaboration with Sales & Design Teams: Work closely with the design team, sales managers, and customer representatives to provide cost-effective solutions and ensure that designs align with project budgets.
- Bill of Materials: Generate comprehensive bills of materials (BOM) based on design and shop drawings to facilitate accurate purchasing and inventory management.
- Cost Tracking: Monitor project costs throughout the design and construction phases, ensuring that spending is kept within budget. Provide regular updates to project managers and leadership on cost status.
- Vendor & Supplier Coordination: Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to obtain pricing information and ensure competitive pricing for materials and services.
- Shop Drawing Coordination: Ensure that shop drawing information is transferred to the plant for manufacturing, while maintaining a focus on cost efficiency and minimizing waste.
- Cost Control & Risk Management: Identify potential risks related to project costs and work with the team to develop strategies for mitigating cost overruns and inefficiencies.
- Mentorship & Training: Provide guidance and training to junior technologists and support their development in cost estimation and construction management.
- Other Duties: Assist with other general tasks related to design, cost management, and project execution as requested by management.
Technical Competencies:
- Building Code Identification Number (BCIN) is required.
- Strong knowledge of Ontario (OBC) and National (NBC) Building Codes.
- Experience with residential low-rise and medium-density wood frame construction, especially with panelized systems.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and/or Revit.
Education:
- College Diploma in Architectural Technology, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Additional training or certification in cost estimating or construction management would be an asset.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an architectural technologist or related role, with a focus on cost estimation and budget management.
- Proven experience working in the residential and commercial construction industries, particularly with panelized building systems.

- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project, Outlook).
- Advanced proficiency in cost estimating software and project management tools.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to track and manage costs effectively.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including designers, estimators, and production managers.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to present cost information clearly to stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
