Direct Counsel is seeking a Litigation Associate to join a leading law firm in Toronto. The firm's litigation practice focuses on providing clients with innovative strategies, skilled advocacy, and deep expertise. By understanding clients' core objectives, their team delivers favorable and efficient results. Their litigators collaborate across disciplines to address pivotal legal and industry matters, ensuring solutions align with business goals. Pretrial, discovery, trial, and appellate efforts are designed with a collaborative, results-oriented approach.
Responsibilities
The firm is seeking an associate with 2+ years of experience to join their litigation team. The ideal candidate will have a strong complex litigation skill set, including:
- Conducting legal research and drafting pleadings and court materials
- Managing document production and discovery
- Contributing to client development activities such as writing articles, attending speaking engagements, and supporting business growth initiatives
The role provides an opportunity to work closely with partners and other attorneys, gaining direct mentorship and fostering career growth. Collaboration is highly valued, and the position requires approximately 60% in-office work in line with the firm's guidelines.
Qualifications
- A JD degree and admission to the Ontario Bar
- At least 2 years of experience handling complex litigation matters (commercial litigation experience is a strong asset)
- Judicial clerkship experience is a plus
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage competing responsibilities
- Team-oriented with a collaborative work style and professionalism when engaging with clients and colleagues
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: CAD $180,000 to $234,000
- Bonus eligible
