The Health & Safety Coordinator is responsible for maintaining and administering workplace health, safety, and environmental policies in compliance with organizational standards and regulatory requirements. This role takes a proactive approach to safety, driving continuous improvement and fostering a strong safety culture. The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic, hands-on environment and is solution-oriented in the face of challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote and support a positive safety culture across the organization

  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations

  • Develop, update, and maintain health and safety policies and programs

  • Conduct workplace inspections and risk assessments, implementing corrective actions as needed

  • Lead incident investigations and provide reports on safety performance

  • Oversee the Joint Health and Safety Committee, ensuring compliance with regulations

  • Manage PPE programs, safety documentation, and training records

  • Coordinate emergency response plans and employee training for fire drills, evacuations, and first aid

  • Administer Return-to-Work programs and manage injury claims with relevant stakeholders

  • Provide health and safety training, including new hire orientation

  • Work with department managers on hazard assessments and safe work procedures

  • Ensure confidentiality in handling sensitive employee and safety-related matters

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, HR, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)

  • 1-2 years of direct health and safety experience preferred

  • Knowledge of workplace safety legislation, regulations, and best practices

  • Experience in incident investigation, workplace inspections, and risk assessments

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Certification or willingness to obtain First Aid, WHMIS, Forklift, Confined Space, and Lockout training

  • Experience with project management or building security is an asset

  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for any work-related travel

  • Ability to pass a background check
