The Health & Safety Coordinator is responsible for maintaining and administering workplace health, safety, and environmental policies in compliance with organizational standards and regulatory requirements. This role takes a proactive approach to safety, driving continuous improvement and fostering a strong safety culture. Key Responsibilities:
Promote and support a positive safety culture across the organization
Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations
Develop, update, and maintain health and safety policies and programs
Conduct workplace inspections and risk assessments, implementing corrective actions as needed
Lead incident investigations and provide reports on safety performance
Oversee the Joint Health and Safety Committee, ensuring compliance with regulations
Manage PPE programs, safety documentation, and training records
Coordinate emergency response plans and employee training for fire drills, evacuations, and first aid
Administer Return-to-Work programs and manage injury claims with relevant stakeholders
Provide health and safety training, including new hire orientation
Work with department managers on hazard assessments and safe work procedures
Ensure confidentiality in handling sensitive employee and safety-related matters
Qualifications & Skills:
Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, HR, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
1-2 years of direct health and safety experience preferred
Knowledge of workplace safety legislation, regulations, and best practices
Experience in incident investigation, workplace inspections, and risk assessments
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Certification or willingness to obtain First Aid, WHMIS, Forklift, Confined Space, and Lockout training
Experience with project management or building security is an asset
Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for any work-related travel
Ability to pass a background check
