Position Overview:

The organization is seeking a highly skilled Director of Finance and Administration to lead its accounting department. This is a full-time, in-office position located in Calgary with no possibility of remote work.The Director will oversee all financial operations, ensure compliance with relevant regulations, and provide strategic financial insights to support company growth. The Director will manage a small team of accounting professionals and work closely with their trading team to oversee the financial aspects of their transactions. This position reports directly to the President.

Key Responsibilities:

• Financial Oversight & Reporting: Oversee and manage all aspects of financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

• Accounting Operations: Supervise the accounting team, ensuring accurate bookkeeping, account reconciliations, and compliance with GAAP and IFRS standards as applicable.

• Budgeting & Forecasting: Develop financial forecasts, budgets, and cash flow projections to support strategic decision-making.

• Risk Management & Compliance: Ensure compliance with financial regulations in both the U.S. and Canada, including tax reporting and audits.

• Trading & Hedging Accounting: Manage and account for future contracts, basis trading, and hedging activities, ensuring proper valuation and financial reporting.

• Commission Process Management: Oversee and manage the commission process for traders, ensuring accurate calculations and timely payments.

• Risk Management & Mitigation: Develop and implement strategies to identify, assess, and mitigate financial and operational risks.

• Cost Control & Profitability Analysis: Analyze costs, margins, and pricing strategies to maximize profitability.

• Systems & Process Improvement: Evaluate and improve accounting processes, financial controls, and software systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

• Collaboration & Leadership: Work closely with the trading team to provide financial insights and risk analysis. Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team.

Qualifications & Skills:

• CPA, CMA, or equivalent financial designation preferred.

• 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

• Experience in wholesale trading, commodities, or manufacturing industries preferred.

• Strong understanding of financial instruments, including futures contracts, hedging, and basis trading.

• Experience managing the commission process for a sales or trading team.

• Experience in risk management and mitigation strategies.

• Knowledge of U.S. and Canadian financial regulations, taxation, and compliance.

• Proficiency in accounting software and financial reporting tools.

• Excellent analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and present financial insights to senior leadership.

• Must be able to work on-site full-time; this is an in-office position with no remote work option.
