HOUSEKEEPER / MAINTENANCE WORKER

Location: 1040 Brookes Street in the Clinical Department

The North Bay Indigenous Hub (NBIH) provides a wide range of programming services including traditional healing, primary care, health promotion, chronic disease management, family-focused maternal/child health care, mental wellness care, diabetes care, and a culturally integrated licensed day care facility. All of the programs are to be delivered in a culturally safe manner to the local urban Indigenous population in addition to our partner First Nations, Nipissing, Temagami and Dokis First Nations. The Primary Health Care team seeks a motivated, self-starter who is passionate about increasing positive health outcomes for Indigenous peoples.

Under the direction of the Executive Director of the North Bay Indigenous Hub (NBIH), this position will be responsible to assist in the delivery of culturally competent and safe health and patient care management focusing on the dietitians scope of practice in a clinic setting as part of an inter-professional team at the North Bay Indigenous Hub (NBIH).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have minimum of Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Must have valid First Aid & CPR, as well as WHMIS training or be willing to obtain
  • Experience using computers i.e. regular email correspondence
  • Previous custodial and grounds experience preferred
  • Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures, supplies and tools
  • Health and Safety Certificate
  • Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check)
  • Must have a valid Drivers License and access to own reliable vehicle

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision within a team environment
  • Ability to follow instructions from supervisor
  • Knowledge and experience with standard institutional cleaning techniques
  • Must be punctual and reliable
  • Demonstrated experience as a professional cleaner in healthcare, child care or office settings
  • Previous general maintenance experience
  • Knowledge of a safety culture in a health and child care setting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational, time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job - health and physical condition consistent with repetitive movement including heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, walking and standing
  • Knowledge of WHMIS legislation
  • Knowledge of infection control

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Provide regular cultural interventions to each classroom according to their learning milestones;
  • Develop and guide feedback processes for parents/caregivers;
  • Participates in team meetings and provide monthly reports to provide recommendations, action plans and progress updates;
  • Participates in administrative meetings to present areas of concern and to receive direction and guidance;
  • Collaborates with community partners;
  • Coordinates internal and external services on behalf of client and family;
  • Identifies and reports potential problems and new developments to the supervisor;
  • Participates on internal and external committees, sharing information, identifying goals and engaging in collaborative problem solving;
  • Acts as a resource providing information and techniques to help with de-escalations using cultural interventions;
  • Documents and key enter case notes and case conference reports and evaluates data;
  • Collects and documents client related information;
  • Collects and records data to monitor client progress and evaluate the effectiveness of services; and,
  • Other duties as required.

DUTIES INCLUDE

  • Maintain a clean orderly childcare and medical center including classrooms, bathrooms, exam rooms, offices and common areas.
  • Disinfecting high touch surfaces throughout the building multiple times a day
  • Perform routine maintenance activities
  • Daily cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping and vacuuming floors
  • Collection and disposing of trash
  • Use of heavy-duty cleaning equipment, such as floor buffers and commercial vacuums
  • Adhering to WHIMIS storage, labeling and usage guidelines for all cleaning products
  • Routine landscaping of childcare outdoor space and traditional grounds
  • To adhere to established NBIH policies and procedures, including safety rules and safe working practices
  • To prepare reporting documentation as required according to NBIH policy
  • To attend in-service training as required in order to better serve the needs of the NBIH
  • To attend staff meetings as required
  • To work in a position of trust with vulnerable people
  • To uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in NBIHs Code of Conduct
  • To maintain inventory of cleaning supplies
  • To maintain WHMIS standards and practices
  • To develop and maintain a vendor resource list for contracted workers in the community
  • Other duties as required
