Cook - 3-week periods 30-35 hrs. per week, alternate with 3 weeks off - Local

COMPANY: Fresh Start Health Retreat, operating from 4384 South Island Hwy, V9H 1E8

POSITION TYPE: 3 weeks of work (30-35 hrs. per week), alternating with 3 weeks off. Vegetarian meals prep.

PAY: Starts at $24, after probation (3 full 21-day programs), goes to $25 + tips. Further raises are based on acquired skills and hours worked.

SUMMARY:

Our ideal candidate is someone who loves hands-on food preparation, is interested in a healthy lifestyle/ vegetarian nutrition and enjoys listening/ learning/sharing about it. You must be able to prepare meals independently. Since the nature of the position is intermittent, you must have a 2nd source of income or spouse support.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepare yummy and aesthetically appealing meals for a group of up to 25 guests, following the current menu

Custom meal planning and preparation

Food inventory and purchasing

Food preparation demos

New staff training

Additional tasks may be assigned (ex., organize/ do de-set-up of the kitchen for the next group, recipe book update, kitchen prep sheets update, pre-program shop, lead a kitchen staff safety training session etc.)

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Team spirit: We are a small team that supports and helps each other. You'll be cross-trained in all kitchen/ housekeeping department duties (health drinks preparation, building cleaning, spa laundry).

We are looking for a person for whom there is no job/ task below him/her and who will happily help with whatever is needed. You will be scheduled for some kitchen assistant shifts (pay is the same) and will be required to do various housekeeping duties, including cleaning washrooms. Our operation requires everyone to be able to do various duties and shifts.

SHIFT HOURS: Morning Shift 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (with large groups may extend by 1-2 hours). Evening Shift 1:00-7:30 p.m.(with large groups may extend by 1 hour ) Minus 30-minute break. Most shifts are morning ones, but you need to be able to work evening shifts when needed. The length of shifts may vary depending on the group size and other needs. Shifts may decrease or extend as needed.

HOURS: Four to five 7 hr. days per week for 3 weeks, alternating with 3 weeks off

The work is available during Fresh Start Retreats, and you are off in between. So youll work about 3 weeks in a row close to full time, alternating with 3 weeks off. CERTIFICATION/ SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Ability to prepare plated vegetarian meals for a group of up to 25 people, with up to 50% of meals customized to individual dietary needs (ex., gluten-free, diabetic, allergies, etc.)
• BC Food Safe and First Aid Level I (if absent, will need to require within 3 months of employment)
  
• Clean Driver's Abstract and Criminal Record Check, if hired

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to carry boxes (ex., from the car upstairs to the kitchen).
• Basic computer skills (you'll be working with kitchen shopping and inventory software, and other documentation)
• Team Spirit - you love helping your team and are not afraid of any work
• During the program dates, you can build your schedule around our needs (you can work weekends, evenings and various days as per need)
• Attention to detail and exceptional cleanliness
