Summary:

The Human Resources Generalist for CW Stevenson serves as a key member of the HR team, responsible for supporting a wide range of HR functions and initiatives. This role plays a pivotal part in providing effective HR support and expertise in areas such as recruitment, employee relations, performance management, payroll, compensation and benefits administration, and training and development. The HR Generalist is a hands-on, solutions-oriented professional who works closely with employees and management to ensure a positive, productive, and compliant work environment.

The Human Resources Generalist reports directly to the Vice President, Human Resources.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelors Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an HR focused role, ideally in an administrative or generalist capacity.
  • CPHR designation, or progress towards obtaining it, is considered a valuable asset.
  • Strong understanding of HR practices and general employment law is required.
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive information with a high level of confidentiality, discretion and professionalism is required.
  • High proficiency in managing HRIS platforms such as BambooHR is required.
  • Experience administering payroll through various systems considered an asset.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Adobe and collaboration tools including Teams.
  • Strong desire to learn and grow within an evolving HR team and provide hands-on support to all areas of the business.
  • Ability to work effectively in a rapidly growing/changing environment with a high degree of resourcefulness and adaptability
  • Communication Skills - Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both oral and written with both internal and external stakeholders; Experience communicating with media an asset
  • Relationship Skills Ability to develop and sustain cooperative working relationships at all levels of the organization; be a mature and self-motivated team player with good conflict-resolution and people management skills; develop productive relationships with vendors

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages the end-to-end recruitment process, including job requisitions, posting, candidate screening, interviewing, selection, background and reference checks, and offers of employment.
  • Partners with hiring managers to understand team needs, job requirements, and ideal candidate profiles.
  • Ensures a smooth and engaging candidate experience from first contact to onboarding.
  • Provides ongoing reporting to HR Leadership on current vacancies and hiring needs.
  • Develops and maintains a pipeline of potential candidates for future hiring needs.
  • Manages the companys annual student recruitment plans, and liaises with various post-secondary educational institutions on current student internship opportunities.
  • Facilitates the new hire onboarding process, ensuring all paperwork, benefits enrollment, and compliance requirements are completed.
  • Conducts orientation sessions for new employees and students to familiarize them with company policies, culture, and procedures.
  • Ensures orientation information is up to date and relevant to the companys strategic plan.
  • Ensures all new hire documentation and HRIS records are accurately maintained.
  • Acts as the primary point of contact for employee relations issues and provides guidance on workplace issues, policies, and inquiries where necessary.
  • Supports Leadership in addressing performance issues, behavioral concerns, and disciplinary actions in a fair and equitable manner.
  • Conducts investigations and resolves issues in a timely fashion when necessary.
  • Assists in the administration of compensation structures and benefits plans, ensuring they align with industry standards and organizational goals.
  • Manages the benefits system administrator portal, and helps employees understand their benefit options, answer benefits-related inquiries and enroll new team members into the system.
  • Assists and acts as a backup to the Corporate Accountant in administering Payroll as necessary.
  • Assists with annual salary benchmarking, ensuring fair and competitive compensation practices.
  • Provides support in creating performance improvement plans (PIPs) and monitors their progress.
  • Creates and administers follow-up documentation in collaboration with Leadership, ensuring documentation is consistently up to date.
  • Assists in organizing and monitoring performance review cycles through BambooHR.
  • Assists in managing the companys LMS system to ensure compliance and accurate quarterly reporting.
  • Partners with external vendors or consultants when necessary to offer specialized training programs.
  • Tracks and evaluates training program effectiveness and adjusts as needed to meet organizational needs.
  • Ensures compliance with all provincial employment laws, including but not limited to Employment Standards, Human Rights, Workplace Safety and Health and all relevant case law.
  • Helps draft, update, and implement HR policies, process documents, and procedures to ensure organizational consistency and compliance.
  • Maintains and updates employee records and other HR documentation in accordance with privacy and legal regulations.
  • Promotes a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to health and safety guidelines and regulations.
  • Conducts workplace safety audits and acts as the employer appointed representative as co-chair on the companys Workplace Safety Committee.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining employee wellness programs that support work-life balance, mental health, and well-being.
  • Maintains accurate records and HRIS data for employee lifecycle events, including recruitment, onboarding, performance, training, and turnover.
  • Assists HR Leadership in monthly and quarterly reporting on turnover, retention, hiring needs, headcount, training needs, compliance metrics, and other business activities.
  • Conducts employee exit interviews as needed to determine areas for improvement.
  • Analyzes HR data to identify trends, make recommendations, and support decision-making in workforce planning.
  • Tracks key performance metrics related to the HR departments annual plan and strategic goals.
  • Supports the HR team in the design and implementation of special projects, such as inclusion initiatives and employee recognition programs to celebrate employee milestones, achievements, and contributions.
  • Leads the Recognition and Engagement Committee in collaboration with the Marketing team to ensure all company events are strategically focused and are executed within the allocated budget.
  • Assists with organizational change efforts by providing guidance and support during transitions.
  • Works closely with HR leadership on strategic HR initiatives and organizational development programs.
  • Collaborates effectively with team members throughout the business, from all levels.
  • Ensures that deliverables align with the strategic priorities of the HR team and other business units supported.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the HR team.
