We are seeking a Corporate Accountant to join our team in Edmonton, AB. The Corporate Accountant is responsible for performing activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal finance policies, accounting standards and regulations. This role requires intermediate analytical skills and understanding of financial principles, and the ability to communicate financial information effectively.

Requirements

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES:

  • Preparing and posting journal entries.
  • Maintaining and reconciling the general ledger
  • Assisting with accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for Valard entities and follow up on outstanding bank transactions.
  • Review and reconcile intercompany transactions for the Valard Group and other Quanta subsidiaries for both the balance sheet and income statement.
  • Supporting the preparation of financial statements and reports.
  • Conducting financial analysis and providing recommendations for process improvements.
  • Collaborating with other departments to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • Reviewing accounting and reporting processes/procedures.
  • Processing, reviewing, and analyzing daily/weekly/monthly transactions.
  • Maintaining internal controls to ensure the safeguarding of the company's assets.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Regularly reviewing monthly indirect costs.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records.
  • Collaborating with team members to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Supporting month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Assisting with audit preparations and providing documentation as needed.
  • Participating in special projects and initiatives as assigned by management.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work under limited supervision and to interact with all levels of staff including management.
  • Strong technical acumen with software platforms such as MS Office Suite in Excel
  • Experience with JD Edwards; previous JDE ERP experience preferred.
  • Must embrace full spectrum of the professional attitude and environment.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally throughout all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple projects concurrently.
  • Ability to work with and maintain highly confidential information is required.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrative knowledge of accounting theory and principles.
  • Capability to work in a faced paced environment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Requires a Bachelor or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or other related disciplines.
  • Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in Corporate Accounting.
  • Achievement of or in the process of acquiring CPA designation from the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada.
