About the Role: The Materials Lead is responsible for overseeing the staff that manage finished goods shipping and intercompany shipping from the Colborne facility. This role ensures the efficient movement of materials, accurate inventory control, and effective communication between internal and external stakeholders. The Materials Lead plays a key role in maintaining smooth operations, addressing material shortages, and driving process improvements to optimize material flow.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Supervise and provide leadership to the material handling team, ensuring efficiency in shipping, receiving, and inventory control.
  • Coordinate outbound shipments of finished goods and intercompany materials, ensuring on-time and accurate delivery.
  • Monitor and resolve material shortages, investigating root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Communicate daily requirements and priorities to material handlers and ensure proper allocation of resources.
  • Oversee training and cross-training of material handling staff to enhance team capabilities and operational flexibility.
  • Maintain accurate records of material movements, shipments, and inventory adjustments.
  • Work closely with the Material Control Leader and Planning teams to optimize material flow and prevent production disruptions.
  • Collaborate with vendors, transportation providers, and internal departments to ensure seamless logistics operations.
  • Assist in continuous improvement (CI) initiatives aimed at improving efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing inventory accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, maintaining a safe and organized work environment.

Required Qualifications


  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in material handling, inventory control, or logistics within a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a materials-related role.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot material flow issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across multiple departments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with Materials Requisition Planning (MRP) systems.
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience in shipping, receiving, and inventory coordination within a high-volume manufacturing setting.
  • Background in continuous improvement (CI) initiatives and process optimization.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and supply chain best practices.

Working Conditions


  • Monday to Friday schedule, with flexibility for overtime based on operational needs.
  • Work conducted in a manufacturing environment with exposure to varying temperatures and equipment.
  • Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 lbs, operating forklifts, and standing for extended periods.
  • Fast-paced, high-pressure environment requiring adaptability and problem-solving.

  • Quality FTQ percentage of units built correctly the first time

  • Evaluates the amount of labor required to build a standard unit and shows change over time.
