Activate is a tech company known for creating Canadas first full-scale interactive gaming facility. Activate is experiencing unprecedented growth and transformation, making it imperative to have a dedicated HR presence at the executive leadership level. Reporting to the CEO, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice President of Human Resources to lead our HR infrastructure and teams in the United States and Canada. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of HR compliance in both regions, a passion for talent acquisition, and a proven track record in enhancing performance and fostering a positive workplace culture.

The Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Management: Oversee HR teams in the US and Canada, providing strategic direction and support to ensure alignment with company goals and compliance with regional regulations. Lead pay equity, wage, benefit and incentive program development for the whole organization on both sides of the border.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to labor laws and regulations in the US and Canada, including but not limited to employment standards, health and safety regulations, and equity legislation. Provide centralized oversight of the organization's ethics and compliance efforts generally, including the administration, investigation, and enforcement of the organization's internal ethics and compliance plan and policies.
  • Talent Acquisition: Develop and implement talent acquisition strategies to attract, hire, and retain top talent in both countries. Collaborate with recruitment teams to streamline hiring processes and cross functional leaders to attract top talent.
  • Performance Management: Design and execute performance management systems that drive employee engagement, productivity, and development. Foster a culture of continuous feedback and improvement.
  • Culture and Employee Engagement: Champion initiatives that cultivate a positive and inclusive workplace culture. Implement programs that promote employee well-being, diversity, and a sense of belonging.
  • Learning and Development: Embed a culture of learning and development through Activate University and the Learning Hub to enhance the customer experience and internal expertise.
  • Strategic HR Planning: Collaborate with senior leadership to align HR strategies with business objectives. Provide insights and recommendations based on HR metrics and industry trends.
  • Change Management: Lead HR-related change initiatives, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal disruption to operations. Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization to foster acceptance and support.

The Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; Masters degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of senior and progressive HR leadership.
  • Certified HR Professional (e.g. CPHR and SHRM-SCP, SPHR) is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of US and Canadian labor laws and regulations.
  • Strong thought leadership and agile team management skills, with the ability to lead multiple business units (Training, Safety, Compliance, Employee relations, Talent, etc.).
  • Ability to think strategically and execute tactically.
  • Remarkable interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Thorough understanding and experience of HR functions, overall fiscal management and financial stewardship.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
