Position Overview
Inn from the Cold (The INN) is seeking a passionate and committed Manager for the Homeless Emergency Response (HER) Project to lead a vital initiative supporting families in crisis. The Manager, HER Project, will be responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating this one-year pilot project, which provides additional emergency shelter capacity by partnering with local hotels to provide temporary accommodations when The INNs family shelter is at full capacity.
From a trauma-informed and strength-based approach, the Manager will oversee a newly formed team, ensuring families receive shelter support and housing navigation services, with a focus on rapid re-housing within the community. Additionally, the Manager will serve as the primary liaison for referring agencies and homelessness sector partners, fostering collaboration and ensuring smooth project implementation.
What Youll Do
- Lead and guide a newly formed team of three Outreach & Housing Case Managers and two Family Support Workers in providing supportive shelter and housing search services to families experiencing homelessness.
- Oversee project start up and on-going project delivery and act as primary liaison with hotel partners.
- Lead the team hiring processes, complete staff onboarding, ensure training and required certifications are current for all staff.
- Engage in performance management by providing regular supervision, including individual 1-on-1 check-ins and team meetings, with all project staff.
- Coordinate the project team staffing schedule to meet 7 day per week service needs and delegate tasks to other team members as required.
- Oversee the referral process to the HER Project, in collaboration with The INNs Shelter and P&D teams.
- Build, maintain and participate in positive working relationships with sector partners to facilitate family referral and support needs.
- Manage family situations and unexpected challenges that might arise with family and/or hotel staff, providing direct support to staff as needed and following established response, reporting and communications procedures.
- Work with larger INN team and community resources to leverage internal strengths and resources and gather external resources to support families transitioning from their hotel stays to community.
- Assess, document and address potential safety situations/critical incidents within the project to ensure proper safety and emergency protocols are used.
- Ensure that the project team safety procedures adhere to Inn from the Cold and government mandated health and safety standards, responding to situations and following established safety and communication.
- Work collaboratively with the Director of Programs and Services in the administration of the annual department budget, monitor monthly expenditures and prepare project reports as required.
This position description reflects the general duties of the role but is not intended to include all duties that may be inherent in the position. The Manager, Homeless Emergency Response (HER) Project may be asked to perform other duties as required or assigned.
What You Bring to Our Mission
- A deep commitment to supporting at-risk and vulnerable families, with a strong desire to make a meaningful impact in the homeless-serving sector.
- A post-secondary degree in social work or a related discipline is strongly preferred, but a combination of education, experience and training will be considered.
- A minimum of 5 years work experience in human services is required, along with a minimum of 2 years experience in a leadership role that included direct staff supervision.
- A minimum of 5 years experience working with vulnerable populations experiencing homelessness.
- Experience working in outreach and/or shelter and housing settings.
- Commitment to working in a team environment, with established team building abilities.
- Highly flexible and solid leadership and interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
- Strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving and documentation skills.
- Effective project and people management experience and conflict resolutions skills.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple competing priorities and timelines.
- High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
- Ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally
- Financial management and budgeting skills are an asset.
- Computer literacy, including knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 including Teams and Outlook.
- Current First Aid/CPR is required, and Suicide Intervention Certification/ASIST is an asset.
- A valid drivers license and reliable car is required.
- Police check and Child Intervention checks are required for employment.
