POSITION SUMMARY

As a Field Service Technician, you'll be responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing high-voltage electric vehicle (EV) systems of our Buses and Coaches in the field. You'll also work on accessory systems like chargers and their integration with the roadway infrastructure. This role is critical to maintaining vehicle uptime and ensuring smooth performance in the field. You'll be expected to read schematics, identify system malfunctions, and troubleshoot complex issues affecting high-voltage batteries and control systems.

Disclaimer: While the majority of work for this Field Service Technician role will be based in Victoria, BC, travel to locations across the province, including Nanaimo, Kamloops, and other areas, may be required. Technicians may also be dispatched to additional locations upon client request.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

    • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex electric vehicle systems, including:
      • High-voltage drivetrains, batteries, inverters, and power electronics.
      • Charging systems and onboard power distribution for vehicles.
      • Control systems, sensors, and vehicle data communications.
    • Perform warranty repairs, retrofits, and system calibrations for EV components and accessory systems, ensuring compliance with safety standards and manufacturer guidelines.
    • Utilize your experience to read electrical schematics and analyze complex control systems to diagnose issues that may arise on the roadways (e.g., battery failures, charging system malfunctions).
    • Troubleshoot system failures in the field by analyzing data logs, using diagnostic tools such as Cummins Insite, Allison DOC, and Wabco Toolbox.
    • Provide technical support to customers and internal teams to resolve issues, offering hands-on solutions and recommendations.
    • Complete all service reports, warranty claims, and documentation on time, while maintaining clear communication with internal teams and customers.
    • Document all service activities, including warranty claims, parts usage, and field reports.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • 5+ years of experience working on electric and hybrid-electric vehicle systems with a focus on HV batteries, control systems, and charging infrastructure (preferrable with experience supporting a fleet of Buses or Coaches).
  • Red Seal Certification in Heavy-Duty Mechanics or Electric Vehicle Systems (preferred, but not required).
  • Extensive experience reading electrical schematics and diagnosing electrical issues in high-voltage systems (both in-vehicle and on-road systems).
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair high-voltage battery systems, inverters, chargers, and other key EV components.
  • Strong understanding of electric vehicle architecture, including how systems interact across buses and coaches.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard diagnostic software and tools.
  • Must be comfortable with traveling and working independently in the field.
  • Experience with warranty repair processes and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently in the field, adapting to new challenges and environments.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) for service documentation and communication.
  • Valid passport for travel, which can be anywhere from 30-50% depending on workload.
