Key Responsibilities:
Develop and Optimize Mining Operations Health, Safety and Security Processes:
o Develop and optimize Health, Safety and Security Management Operating Systems for mining operations
o Design, document, and implement efficient and scalable health, safety, and security processes tailored to industry-specific needs.
Compliance and Risk Mitigation:
o Ensure all processes align with regulatory standards, industry best practices, and company policies to reduce risk and enhance safety outcomes.
o Ensure all processes align with mining safety regulations, environmental standards, and industry certifications.
o Development of auditing processes to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance and readiness for inspections.
Process Integration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate HSS processes into broader organizational and operational processes.
Health Monitoring and Worker Well-being
o Develop health processes for fatigue management, dust and noise exposure, and respiratory protection.
o Create health and wellness monitoring systems for workers in remote or high-risk environments.
Continuous Improvement:
o Establish processes that evolve with changing mining technologies, techniques, and global best practices.
o Build in feedback loops and continuous risk assessment strategies to ensure processes remain adaptive and effective.
o Identify process gaps, inefficiencies, and emerging risks, recommending continuous improvement initiatives.
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with key stakeholders (operational, HR, security, and leadership teams) to understand requirements and ensure processes meet organizational needs.
Incident Response Process Design: Develop and refine incident response and emergency management processes to ensure rapid and effective action.
Training & Change Management: Design and support training programs and change management strategies to embed new processes effectively across teams.
Technology Alignment:
o Identify and implement digital solutions that enhance HSS processes, such as data collection, monitoring, and reporting systems.
o Recommend digital solutions for real-time monitoring of safety-critical data (e.g., air quality sensors, vibration data, equipment maintenance alerts).
o Design processes for incident reporting and analysis of systems to ensure learning and improvement post-incident.
Process Auditing: Conduct audits to ensure process adherence, effectiveness, and regulatory compliance.
Qualifications, Skills and Competencies Required:
Preferably a degree in Health, Safety, Environment, Project Management or Risk Management.
Proven experience in developing and optimizing health, safety, and security processes within the mining sector is required.
Candidates must demonstrate a strong understanding of mining operations, safety protocols, and industry-specific risks. Deep Knowledge of HSS Regulations and Standards (local, national, and international).
Familiarity with mining regulations and safety standards such as ISO 45001 and Mine Health and Safety Acts is preferred.
Proven Experience in process development, especially in safety-critical industries.
Strong Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills to identify gaps and develop innovative solutions.
Experience with underground, open-pit, or processing plant operations will be highly regarded.
Excellent Stakeholder Engagement Skills with the ability to manage resistance and build buy-in.
Experience with Digital Tools and Data-Driven Decision Making for health and safety.
Strong Communication and Documentation Skills to clearly articulate process frameworks and expectations.
Process Thinking and Design: Proficient in process thinking and designing effective processes to optimize Health, Safety, Security processes.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiar with project management software.
Solid technical background in developing, implementing and understanding management systems (Safety, Health, Safety or Environment), especially within the industrial sector (construction, energy, mining, manufacturing, consulting, etc.).
Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
Superior organizational, problem solving and time-management skills.
Knowledgeable in related computer applications and proficient in their use.
