Program Overview
The JVS Specialized Employment Services, funded by MLITSD and managed by WCG, provides employment services t to a variety of clients, including persons with disabilities of all ages, financial backgrounds and skills to help them gain and retain employment within their field or a related field. To achieve its goal, the program provides a range of services including one-on-one employment counselling, employment workshops, job development/placement services and job retention supports.
In addition, Specialized Employment Services at this location collaborate with other programs to ensure efficient and smooth operations through streamlining client referrals to appropriate services.
We're looking for someone who will:
• Provide individual employment counselling and program referrals, including the ability to complete common assessments
• Assess client needs and develop service plans that support each clients employment and retention goals
• Demonstrate outcome-focused case management ability; applying knowledge of current local labour market trends and community services for people with disabilities
• Maintain complete client case files in compliance with the new Employment Ontario model requirements; monitor clients' progress with ongoing follow-up; utilize funder's and SSM's CRM.
• Interview and assess clients for a variety of employment backgrounds, including ensuring clients have an appropriate resume, interview adeptness, job search skills, etc.
• Collaborate with community partners and organizations to handle a high volume of referrals
• Apply knowledge of employment-related issues, adult learning approaches and accommodation analysis strategies to clients seeking employment
• Develop strategies and program alternatives that fit with the client's disability, have knowledge of transferable skills analysis
• Assist clients in securing and maintaining employment and ensure successful job retention at 3, 6 and 12 months
• Flexible hours / evenings / weekends may be required for this position.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor's degree or Post Graduate Certificate in Counselling or Social Services with placement experience, or a related degree with 3-5 years of counselling experience. International degrees must be evaluated for Canadian equivalency.
• Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of disabilities (ODSP client population), including learning disabilities, ADHD, ASD, and mental health challenges in vocational and employment settings.
• Strong counselling skills
• Experience facilitating groups for a range learning styles
• Strong problem-solving and decision making skills
• Strong collaboration skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Computer literate; the ability to learn systems used by the agency (ie. SalesForce)
• A clear Police Vulnerable Sector check is required for this position
Our ideal candidate will also have:
• Strong knowledge of adult learning approaches
• Certification form an institution, such as VRA Canada or CVRP
