The Part-Time Client Services and Educational Assistant is responsible for providing administrative and outreach support, assisting in implementation of learning activities, financial reporting and monitoring related to client transportation support for the ELSD staff team.
ABOUT YWCA TORONTO – ENGLISH LANGUAGE SKILLS AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
The English Language Skills and Development Program is a federally funded English language program for newcomer women and offers day language instruction classes from levels 0 through 4.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides administrative assistance to the Program Manager and staff, manages inquiries, maintains program files, orders supplies, and coordinates with vendors.
  • Assists with student registration, external referrals, child subsidy documents, and liaises with Care for Newcomer Children (CNC) staff.
  • Prepares data for HARTS and iCARE, ensures accurate data entry, monitors budget lines, processes small purchases, and manages petty cash and TTC tokens.
  • Supports instructors with teaching materials, facilitates student discussions, and helps with Portfolio-Based Language Assessment (PBLA) activities.
  • Conducts digital skills assessments, manages Chromebook distribution, and assists participants with borrowing agreements.
  • Works with the team on customer service, statistics, record-keeping, security duties, and maintaining a safe and organized environment.
Ensures health and safety compliance, de-escalates conflicts, provides support for events, supervises volunteers or students, and participates in meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • In-depth knowledge of an academic or technical discipline normally acquired through completion of a community college diploma (e.g. business administration or office management, educational support, education assistant).
  • 1-3 years directly related work experience, preferably in a LINC, ESL organization or education setting
  • Knowledge of PBLA Practice Guidelines is required.
  • Advanced computer skills and knowledge in computer systems, hardware and various software packages (i.e., Microsoft Office applications)
  • Experience working with minimal supervision with demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of and ability to trouble shoot computer hardware network connections
  • Superior customer service, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • knowledge and experience in de-escalating conflict
  • knowledge and experience in responding to crisis situations
  • Knowledge of mental health issues and their impact on participants
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Teaching English as Second Language experience an asset
  • Accounting and Bookkeeping experience an asset
  • Knowledge of another language an asset
Note:
  • Required to take vacation time during the times when the program is closed to students.
    • Spring Break – usually 5 days during the March spring break of TDSB
    • Summer Break – first two weeks of July, usually 9 days excluding the July 1st holiday
    • Winter Break – week of Christmas and week of New Year, usually 7 days.
  • This position is for 30 hours/week
