Position Overview: As our Assistant Supervisor, you will be the lead support to the Supervisor in providing support and guidance to our passionate team of educators. You will take on a leadership role, ensuring high-quality care, compliance with regulatory standards, and the maintenance of a nurturing, respectful, and engaging atmosphere for children, families, and staff. This role combines classroom leadership with operational management, offering a dynamic environment where you can make a real impact.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Leadership:
- Act as a Lead Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) in a classroom.
- Plan and facilitate educational activities, storytelling, songs, artistic expression, and excursions within the community.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment for children.
- Assist and guide children in personal care routines (eating, dressing, toileting habits).
- Implement emergent curriculum-based programs that support children's physical, cognitive, emotional, and social growth.
- Manage enrolment processes and parent inquiries professionally and empathetically.
- Oversee bi-weekly billing, fee subsidies, attendance tracking, and accurate maintenance of children's records.
- Regularly communicate with parents, providing support, guidance, and resources on child development and centre-related news and issues.
- Supervising staff attendance, scheduling, and payroll processes.
- Supporting hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and professional development of team members.
- Providing regular feedback, coaching, and setting performance goals with educators.
- Organizing and facilitating team meetings and training sessions.
- Fulfill the Supervisor's role in their absence, ensuring seamless operations.
- Prepare and deliver reports as required.
- Ensure compliance with licensing standards, health and safety guidelines, and internal policies.
- Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education (or equivalent).
- Minimum five (5) years' experience as a Registered Early Childhood Educator.
- Proven leadership experience in an integrated childcare setting.
- Familiarity with ELECT Framework and "How Does Learning Happen?"
- Proficiency in MS Office and childcare management software (experience with Lillio is an asset).
- Valid First Aid and Infant/Child CPR certification.
- Registered member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
- Current Vulnerable Sector Police Check (renewable every five years).
- Strong knowledge of the Child Care & Early Years Act (CCEYA).
- Exceptional communication (verbal and written), organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively manage difficult situations with sensitivity and professionalism.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts and participate in after-hours meetings/events.
- Creative problem-solver with a proactive mindset and collaborative approach.
