Job SummaryAs a Caregiver with Assisting Hands Home Care in Ottawa, Ontario, you will be an essential part of a team dedicated to providing compassionate, person-centered support to elderly and disabled clients in their homes. Your primary responsibility is to ensure each clients comfort, safety, and independence while fostering a dignified, respectful environment. You will assist clients with daily living activities and provide companionship, emotional support, and reliable care.
Key Responsibilities
- Personal Care: Assist clients with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and other aspects of personal hygiene.
- Mobility Support: Help clients with mobility and transfers, using safe handling techniques and assistive devices as needed.
- Nutritional Support: Provide nutritional support to clients as needed
- Medication Assistance: Remind and assist clients with their medications, ensuring adherence to care plans (training provided).
- Household Assistance: Perform light housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation, and other domestic tasks.
- Companionship: Engage clients in meaningful activities and conversation to reduce isolation and provide emotional support.
- Health Monitoring: Observe and document any changes in clients health and report to the care coordinator or supervisor.
- Transportation: Provide or arrange transportation for appointments, errands, and outings, if required.
- Emergency Response: Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies, following agency protocols to ensure client safety.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; certification as a Personal Support Worker (PSW) or equivalent training preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in caregiving, healthcare, or a related field is an asset but not required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a compassionate, patient, and respectful approach to client care.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology and health care procedures (training provided).
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check or Criminal Background Check.
- Up-to-date vaccinations, including COVID-19 and influenza.
- Proof of tuberculosis (TB) clearance, either through a recent negative test or chest x-ray as required by provincial regulations.
- Valid Ontario drivers license and reliable transportation preferred
- Physical demands may include lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying items up to 20 lbs.
- Flexible hours may be required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on client needs.
