Product Development / Design Engineer

We are seeking a team player who enjoys being hands-on, appreciates both engineering and design and has oil and gas experience. This person is passionate about taking an idea and developing industry leading products. The individual works well with a team and can provide guidance and support to product development and manufacturing.

Reports to: Engineering Manager

Work Schedule:

This is a salaried role with the majority of hours being M-F 8-5 pm. Flexibility in hours of work is desired, as workload may vary according to the requirements based on volume of work.

Job Duties:

• Manage product development projects
• Review technical drawings for production
• Design, modify and troubleshoot specialized equipment and products using 3D CAD software: Solidworks required
• Design manufacturing aids for machining, welding and assembly used in the production of various products
• Directing the construction of new products and equipment
• Research local codes, guidelines, and design criteria for the development of products and equipment
• Produce technical documentation for products including parts drawings, assembly drawings, exploded views, sale drawings etc.
• Evaluating the assembly, performance and design of new products or equipment.
• Reporting on project charters, testing documentation and design analysis of a product development lifecycle
• Evaluating products and equipment using analytical models and software analysis
• Advising on the development of work instructions to aid in the manufacturing process
• Directing technical inspections to identify critical components and advising on quality control methods
• Undertake hands-on work in all stages of product development (first article inspection, assembly, physical testing etc)
• Ensuring all testing criteria's and procedures are written and approved including: test goals, equipment, safety, pass/fail criteria, and planned documentation
• Develop timeline and resource plans regarding build of equipment, then test and discover efficiency improvements in speed, cost, quality of design and build
• Outlining procurement needs of testing equipment as needed
• Failure mode analysis of testing and product failures
• Responsible for writing/producing testing documentation for new tools including: test reports, assembly procedure, raw data and observations.
• Undertake hands-on work in the building and commissioning of product and equipment
• Prepare contract drawings, schematics, schedules, details, and sketches from conceptual design through to construction
• Competent in Microsoft software (word, excel, powerpoint etc)
• Other duties as required

Qualifications/Requirements

• Mechanical Engineering Technologist, C.E.T. an asset, or a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Proficient with Solidworks Professional
• Strong computer skills
• Experience with Autodesk Autocad, Autodesk Inventor, Enterprise PDM, ANSYS, Mathcad, Microsoft Office, and data acquisition software an asset
• 2-5 years' experience in research and development or design engineering
• Oil and Gas experience with knowledge in down hole tool design
• Strong understanding of materials and stress mechanics
• Strong organizational and project management skills
• Knowledge of quality programs such as ISO 9001:2015 and API
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes and capabilities
• Automation, programming, PLC, C++ experience considered valuable.
