growth of the Company. Some of the Estimator responsibilities include:
• Develop and maintain an up-to-date estimating system complete with labor, material,
equipment, and rental costs database;
• Ensure that the company sales and bidding procedures comply with all federal, provincial,
and local laws, ordinances, rules, regulations, statutory requirements and ethical
considerations;
• Solicit bid prices from subcontractors and suppliers prior to closing a tender. Contact
subcontractors and suppliers to obtain advantages on tender;
• Maintain awareness of Construction Industry related trends, advances and improvements,
technical or political activities that could affect the company;
• Once a project has been awarded, hand over all pertinent documentation and
information to the Project Manager; provide a list of subcontractors carried to close the
tender. Attend subtrade negotiation meetings and contract negotiations where required;
• Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with sub-contractors, architects, and consultants.
• See beyond the plans and specifications.
• Foster and maintain positive relations and communication with clients, consultants,
architects, and subcontractors.
Candidates should:
• College or University Degree in construction management or civil engineering;
• Have 5 to 10 years as Construction Estimator working for a General Contractor in Canada;
• Knowledge of local market conditions such as pricing, subcontractors, material, and equipment
availability, etc.
• Have good working knowledge of MS Office suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook), MS Project or
Primavera scheduling software and industry leading estimating/quantity take off software such
as Planswift, Bluebeam, Timberline, and the likes.
• Demonstrate the ability to handle stressful situation and meet tight deadlines
• Have excellent communication skills in English (mandatory) and in French (preferred);
• Be able to read, understand and interpret complex contract documents, drawings,
specifications, scopes of work and project schedules.
