Job Purpose

The Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (Avionics) is responsible for providing avionics maintenance services including but not limited to servicing, troubleshooting, maintenance, repairs, modifications, fabrication, installation, and functional tests on electrical systems and their components utilizing the tools and equipment available and in accordance with company and Transport Canada approved standards.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensure all tasks assigned are completed efficiently and airworthiness is maintained.
  • Ensure test equipment serviceability and calibrations are maintained.
  • Complete repairs, overhauls, and inspections on aircraft or in avionics shops.
  • Review work order charges to ensure correct data is entered into the system and advise direct supervisor of any discrepancies.
  • Complete all work order entries in a timely manner.
  • Participate in scheduled heavy maintenance and provide aircraft on ground (AOG) support when required.
  • Perform modifications and repairs on avionics, electrical and electromechanical systems.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and troubleshoot problems with applicable systems.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and read, understand, and apply engineering instructions and drawings.
  • Complete each task and associated maintenance documentation in an appropriate, safe, and timely manner.
  • Maintain and manage the avionics shop.
  • Ensure the availability and maintenance of all avionics required publications.
  • Ensure that all components installed on aircrafts are pre-approved and properly certified.
  • Assist in keeping the maintenance office, hangar, and shop areas clean and ensure equipment is appropriately stored/returned after tasks are completed.

General Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the company's mission, vision, and values.

  • Ensure optimal communication with all employees and internal partners.
  • Maintain current knowledge of all Transport Canada rules, regulations and policies.
  • Participate in approved training and special projects as required.
  • Ensure compliance with quality assurance and safety programs to promote an incident and injury free culture.

Qualifications

Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position include a high school diploma or equivalent, and a minimum E Transport Canada AME license along with at least a minimum five years' progressive experience in avionics, repair, and installations. A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Skills, knowledge, and abilities include:

  • Ability to hold and maintain a class 5 valid driver's license,
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Sound problem solving, decision-making, analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and ownership of projects and tasks and execute effectively and in a timely manner.
  • Strong leadership skills and a hands-on, self-motivated, and demonstrated positive, can-do attitude.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to organize, multi-task and prioritize.
  • Proficient in utilizing Microsoft Office applications and software specific to company operations.
  • Ability to support, strengthen and enhance safety initiatives.

Equipment Used

  • Personal hand tools.
  • Specialized aviation diagnostic, inspection, and repair tools.
  • Standard avionics test equipment.
  • Standard office and telecommunications equipment.

Typical Physical and Cognitive Demands

  • Majority of the work is completed in an indoor or outdoor hangar environment and on elevated workstations.
  • Ability to work long, sometimes irregular hours.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Able to prioritize and organize objectives and meet deadlines in a fast-paced office environment.
  • Must quickly adapt to changing assignments.
  • Required to act professionally and use mature judgment.
  • Work a variety of scheduled shifts as assigned to accommodate maintenance requirements.
  • Ground and/or air travel required.
