Job Purpose

The Field Trainer takes a leadership role by delivering comprehensive training and support to Outreach Support Mentors, ensuring high standards of care and service are met within Simaril's Supported Independent Living (SIL). This role combines office-based onboarding and orientation with field-based quality control, retraining, and coaching. The Field Trainer identifies training needs, develops training materials, observes and evaluates staff performance, and ensures the effective implementation of new initiatives. They will also travel to various locations to deliver on-the-job training and bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application.

Duties and Responsibilities

Training and Development:

  • Deliver initial orientation and onboarding for job-specific components in the office.
  • Develop and maintain training materials tailored to organizational needs.
  • Provide on-the-job training by observing and coaching staff in their work environment followed by feedback.
  • Identify areas where additional training or development is required and address issues directly.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.

Quality Assurance and Support:

  • Conduct quality control checks in the field, ensuring staff are meeting company standards.
  • Address issues observed during field visits and provide corrective feedback and retraining as needed.
  • Collaborate with management to implement and monitor new initiatives.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make recommendations for improvements.

Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with Case Managers, Program Managers, and other team members to align training with organizational goals.
  • Build positive relationships with families, team members, and external stakeholders to support the delivery of high-quality care.
  • Maintain a positive and professional demeanor, demonstrating leadership and reliability.

Administration:

  • Maintain accurate and timely records of training sessions, evaluations, and follow-ups.
  • Complete required documentation, including contact notes, incident reports, and performance evaluations.
  • Attend and actively contribute to leadership and team meetings.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of direct support work experience in SIL settings, with leadership or supervisory experience required.
  • Proven experience in training, coaching, and addressing performance issues.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle challenging situations effectively.
  • Post-secondary education in Disability and Community Support Program or a related field.
  • Train The Trainer certification is an asset.
  • Education in training and development is a significant asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, email, and internet applications.
  • Valid Drivers License and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated adaptability, reliability, and professionalism.
  • Ability to provide current employment documentation, including a Criminal Record Check and Adult Abuse Registry check.
  • Current First Aid Certification (Level C).

Hours of Work and Working Conditions This is a full-time position with hours reflecting the needs of assigned locations. Flexibility is required, including occasional evenings or early mornings. The schedule is:

- Sunday through Thursday, 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, with potential overtime compensated as per policy.
