Cleaver Brooks is looking for a Welding Quality Specialist to join our team in Stratford, ON. The Welding Quality Specialist is responsible for ensuring the quality and compliance of welded products by conducting inspections, verifying welding procedures, and maintaining records in accordance with ASME standards. This role requires strong attention to detail, technical expertise, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with production teams.

Job Location: Stratford, ON

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct visual inspections and quality checks on welded components and assemblies.
  • Ensure compliance with Section IX of the ASME Code and other relevant industry standards.
  • Verify welding symbols, procedures, and specifications for accuracy.
  • Use various measuring instruments to assess weld quality and product integrity.
  • Document inspection results, maintain records, and generate reports on quality findings.
  • Communicate with welders, engineers, and production teams to resolve quality concerns.
  • Support process improvements to enhance welding quality and efficiency.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment while adhering to company policies and safety regulations.

Essential Functions:

  1. Welding Inspection & Quality Control
    • Conduct inspections on welded components and assemblies to ensure compliance with ASME Section IX and company standards.
    • Identify weld defects and non-conformities, recommending corrective actions as needed.
  2. Code & Standard Compliance
    • Ensure all welding procedures align with ASME, CWB, AWS, and other relevant industry codes.
    • Verify welder qualifications and certifications meet regulatory and company requirements.
  3. Documentation & Reporting
    • Maintain accurate records of welding inspections, quality reports, and compliance documentation.
    • Prepare and submit reports on weld quality, inspection findings, and process improvements.
  4. Measurement & Testing
    • Utilize various measuring instruments to verify dimensions, weld integrity, and material specifications.
    • Perform visual and dimensional inspections to ensure adherence to project specifications.
  5. Process Improvement & Troubleshooting
    • Assist in developing and refining welding procedures to improve quality and efficiency.
    • Work with production teams to resolve welding-related issues and prevent recurring defects.
  6. Collaboration & Communication
    • Provide feedback and guidance to welders, engineers, and production personnel regarding welding standards and best practices.
    • Communicate effectively through reports, email, and direct interaction with teams.
  7. Safety & Compliance
    • Ensure welding processes adhere to company safety policies and industry regulations.
    • Promote a culture of safety and quality awareness within the workplace.
  8. Training & Support
    • Support welder training programs to enhance skills and adherence to welding procedures.
    • Assist in qualifying welders and conducting periodic assessments.
  9. Workplace Organization & Maintenance
    • Maintain inspection equipment in good working condition.
    • Ensure work areas and documentation are organized and up to date.
  10. Physical & Environmental Requirements
    • Perform tasks that require standing, bending, climbing, and working in confined spaces.
    • Work in plant, shop, or field environments, occasionally exposed to industrial conditions.

Basic Requirements:

Education & Certifications:

  • Diploma or Degree in Quality, Electrical, Welding, or Manufacturing from an accredited college or university.
  • CWB CWI Level I (Canadian) – must provide proof of certification.
  • AWS CAWI (American) – must provide proof of certification.

Technical & Experience Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of welding symbols and procedures in accordance with ASME Section IX.
  • Thorough understanding of inspection procedures and working knowledge of ASME standards.
  • Previous experience in quality control is preferred.
  • Welding experience is an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, IFS, and other quality-related software.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and work with high accuracy.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to pass a visual exam for welding inspection.
  • Strong communication skills – able to work independently and collaborate with teams.
  • Proficiency in email, instant messaging, and digital documentation.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in completing tasks.

Physical Skill & Effort/Working Conditions and Hazards:

  • The role involves walking, bending, climbing, pushing, and standing for extended periods.
  • Must be able to enter confined spaces as required for inspections.
  • Work is performed in a plant, shop, or field environment, with occasional exposure to industrial conditions.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must adhere to safety, quality, and work standards while maintaining equipment and facilities.
  • Regular and punctual attendance is required.
