What You'll Be Doing

Essential Responsibilities:

  • In conjunction with the Chief Estimator, reviews “Requests for Quotations” from a variety of sources and helps prioritize estimating workload.
  • Arrange for delivery of drawings and specifications in manual or electronic fashion and sets up manual and/or electronic folders and files.
  • Carefully reviews and analyzes customer specifications and drawings and maintains detailed notes (written &/or electronic) of all related estimating assumptions.
  • Prepare requests for tenders from a variety of subcontractors and suppliers to obtain quotations for related and needed services and equipment.
  • Use Electronic Take-off Software (AutoBid) to complete take-offs
  • Review all project information including instructions to bidders, construction schedules, tender forms, and addendums.
  • Ensure that information developed for quotation submissions is consistent with the latest generation of accurate drawings and project specifications.
  • In conjunction with the Chief Estimator, consultation with customers regarding the defined scope of work and any scope exclusions
  • Prepares and forwards a bid package to the customer including quotation/scope letter, breakdowns, itemized prices etc.
  • As directed, contacts customers regarding the status of outstanding quotations.
  • Upon customer approval, meets with the Project Coordinator to review project specifications, drawings and reviews/explains all estimating assumptions.
  • During projects, Project Coordinators occasionally assist with the costing of extras and/or change orders.
  • Maintain and update Mechanical/Sheetmetal software
  • Reviews completed projects and compares actual performance with quoted amounts.
  • Based upon actual costs, adjusts databases to reflect changes
  • Participates in the handover process for the awarded projects to the Operations team
  • Actively participates in the End of Project Review process.
  • Performs other duties as required

Requirements

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2-5 years of HVAC sheet metal estimation experience in the Institutional, Commercial and Industrial (ICI) or mid-to-hi-rise construction industry.
  • A university degree or college diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Construction, or another related field is preferred.
  • Experience with Electronic Take-off Software (e.g. AutoBid)
  • Good understanding of HVAC drawings and blueprints.
  • Working knowledge with Microsoft Word/Excel
  • Red Seal Certification in Sheet Metal Worker or related trade (an asset but not required).
  • Hands-on experience with HVAC installation or fabrication (an asset but not required).
