Job Description:

An opening exists within AltaLink for a Manager, Rights-of-Way (ROW) Management and Field Analysis (ROW/FA). Reporting to the Director, Maintenance Program Delivery, the Manager, ROW/FA is a key Leader and contributor within Asset Management and directly responsible for the project development and delivery of the Annual Integrated Vegetation Management and ROW Scope of Work plans which totals roughly $10M annually. The role manages a number of key contracts for outsourced field services related to vegetation and ROW management. The role also works closely with Operational Engineering, Projects Delivery, Procurement, Maintenance Analysis Planning & Scheduling, System Operations and Field Operations to develop the plans and ensure any risks identified during execution are mitigated in a collaborative and expedient manner. The Manager leads a highly motivated and committed team of technical experts involved in the day-to-day scoping, planning, scheduling and tracking of maintenance activities within the plans. The successful candidate will contribute on the Asset Management Leadership team and proactively develop their staff into a high performing team.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strong leadership, direction, coaching and mentoring to the RW&FA group that has a number of key areas of responsibility:
  • Lead the development of the Annual Integrated Vegetation Management and ROW Scope of Work plans, through close collaboration with internal stakeholders, for operational and capital maintenance of our ROW, including Vegetation.
  • Provides technical expertise related to transmission lines and substation asset condition and health for near- and long-term asset management planning purposes, and in support of real-time operations, including facility acceptance.
  • Manage, including development and forecasting, internal and contracted resource/budgets associated with planning, scheduling and execution of the operational maintenance for ROW, including Vegetation.
  • Monitor progress of capital and operating maintenance to ensure work is executed in accordance with the approved annual maintenance plan's scope, schedule and cost.
  • Contractor management of a number of key field service contractors related to vegetation and ROW management.
  • Collaborate with internal and external customers and stakeholders to develop a common risk-based perspective of ROW maintenance priorities to support an effective capital and operating ROW maintenance program.
  • Assure processes and procedures are in place and effective in supporting compliance to company policies, customer SLAs and industry standards, including Alberta Reliability Standards.
  • Encourage and enable various continuous improvement and change management activities, including further leveraging technology and data analytics to improve bottom line metrics in capital and operating costs, reliability, customer satisfaction and safety.
  • Lead Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) data analytics and technology initiative through the development of processes to perform inspection using UAS and data analysis to drive innovation and progress.
  • Oversee project management activities, implement cost-saving measures, and optimize vegetation management strategies.

Requirements

  • Engineering Degree or Technical Diploma with a minimum of 5 years of utility experience; or a minimum of 20 years of utility experience (involving Field Operations and/or ROW Management).
  • A minimum of 3 years demonstrated leadership ability and skills.
  • Proven ability/experience in the above noted responsibilities.
  • Effective Contractor Management skills applied to both existing contactors and onboarding of new contractors.
  • Excellent problem solver coupled with a proven ability to lead/coach/mentor individuals and teams involved in fast paced, high-pressure environments.
  • Proven ability in building strong relationships between office and field staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions using a risk framework with incomplete information and a bias toward action.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive customer outcomes.
  • Must have valid class 5 driver's license and be able to accommodate some travel within Alberta.
  • Proven track record of good attendance and performance.
