Job Title: Senior Accountant
Reporting directly to the Financial Reporting Manager, the Senior Accountant plays a pivotal role in the Finance team, overseeing key accounting functions and ensuring accuracy in financial reporting. This role is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting transactions, actively contributing to the month-end close process, and assisting in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements.
Key aspects of this role include working closely with the finance team and partnering with cross-functional departments to ensure financial accuracy, maintain compliance, and drive operational efficiency.
Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Accounts Payable & Expense Management
- Process invoices, purchase requisitions, employee expense reports, and payments, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely processing.
- Review and approve payment batches, verifying supporting documentation and adherence to company policies.
Month-End & Financial Reporting
- Prepare and maintain monthly close working papers, including bank and credit card reconciliations, PP&E, leases, marketable securities, and prepaid expenses.
- Oversee the month-end close process, ensuring all payables and accruals are accurately recorded within the appropriate period.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and Management Discussion & Analysis (MD&A), ensuring compliance with reporting standards.
- Analyze financial records for discrepancies and variances, providing insights and recommendations for corrective actions.
Budgeting & General Ledger Maintenance
- Assist in monitoring departmental budgets by comparing actual expenditures to forecasts and identifying potential variances.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger by ensuring accurate classifications, reconciliations, and adjustments as needed.
Financial Analysis & Compliance
- Assemble and provide financial data for internal reporting, external audits, and regulatory filings as required.
- Support compliance efforts by ensuring adherence to accounting principles, internal controls, and company policies.
Process Improvement & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance financial processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business objectives, improve financial workflows, and enhance overall financial health.
The Ideal Candidate
Education / Qualifications:
- Accounting diploma or accounting degree is required.
- Enrollment in the CPA program or a CPA designation is an asset.
Experience / Skills
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in a public practice firm or with a public company is required.
- Industry or similar experience would be a benefit (mining, oil & gas, energy etc.)
- Strong technical accounting skills are essential with a desire and ability to work within a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- A proactive mindset with a strong willingness to learn, adapt, and embrace feedback for continuous growth.

Work Location & Conditions
This is an office-based job, in Skeena's Corporate office located in Vancouver, British Columbia, on a Monday to Friday schedule. Additionally, the job is in a fast paced, and at times stressful working environment, with having to manage multiple competing priorities. Some flexibility in work location may be considered.

Compensation
The expected salary range for this position is CA$70,000 - CA$95,000, in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines and any job offer received by a candidate will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant education, training, and/or experience.
