Who You Are

Mikisew is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Construction Supervisor. Reporting to the Director of MTS, the Construction Supervisor plays a crucial role in overseeing the daily operations of the construction team, which includes carpenters, plumbing crews, and electrical crews, from the start of a project to post-possession. The Construction Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring the team works efficiently and adheres to safety protocols, while maintaining high standards of quality control. This role also includes tracking project schedules and budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective completion. The Construction Supervisor will work closely with the Construction Manager and Project Manager to monitor project progress, resolve issues as they arise, and ensure that all project objectives are met. They will also liaise with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure smooth communication and project execution. The Construction Supervisor is expected to uphold Mikisews commitment to safety, quality, and project success.

This position is based in Fort Chipewyan, AB

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Work with the project team, clients, outside trade contractors, and consultants to create a successful project.
  • Provide leadership to the trades workers and other Supervisors that demonstrates and results in a safe work culture and is responsible for the overall safety of their project.
  • Ensure regular email communications with management for ongoing project status.
  • Maintain a safe job site and ensure that the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act are enforced.
  • Complete daily Project Hazard Assessment and send to the Safety Officer.
  • Oversee the execution of the work, including quality and production, by ensuring that the work is completed to project specifications and schedule.
  • Monitor and maintain the project construction schedule.
  • Conduct morning walk-throughs of all properties in their entirety, noting any issues that need to be addressed.
  • Schedule all necessary trade work resulting from inspections.
  • Review project drawings and specifications independently and with the trade workers to proactively find conflicts and recommend resolutions to the project team.
  • Identify needs and deficiencies in the plan/schedule and communicate these to the appropriate management person.
  • Prepare inspection reports and manage deficiency resolutions.
  • Raise and discuss relevant issues and proposed solutions at job site meetings.
  • Maintain control and responsibility for the security and operation of the companys equipment on the job site.
  • Control and monitor labour and material expenses.
  • Professionally communicate with team members and clients.
  • Maintain and enforce good construction standards and quality control.
  • Update and submit weekly management reports.
  • Manage job costing and project costing control to ensure projects remain within financial constraints.
  • Prepare and update cost reports on specific projects, providing timely and accurate financial data to the project team and stakeholders.
  • All other duties as required

Qualifications

First Aid Certification

Minimum of 5 years of experience in residential construction and site management

Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering documentation

Demonstrated experience managing wood-framed construction projects

Carpenter Journeyman ticket from Alberta is required

In-depth knowledge of the Alberta Building Code

Industry-related education (e.g., Construction Management, Building Trades) is an asset

Ability to work effectively in environments requiring a high level of urgency, making decisions while ensuring quality and service standards are met

Strong multitasking abilities, proactive attitude, and attention to detail

Committed to always promoting and enforcing Health & Safety standards

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Attention to detail and pride in workmanship
  • Self-motivated and ability to problem-solve
  • Basic understanding of MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook). MS Project experience is an asset
  • Comfortable working with technology
  • Work with minimal supervision
  • Clean Class 5 Drivers License
  • Valid class five (5) Drivers Licence.
  • Willingness to submit to an oath of confidentiality.
  • Successful Completion of Criminal Record Check.
  • Willing to work flexible schedule.
