Position Summary: As a Production Planner, you will report to the Production Manager and play a crucial role in maintaining and updating the production schedule based on sales forecasts, plant and employee capacity, and new business opportunities to meet customer demands.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Scheduling and Forecasting: Responsible for the clerical aspects of scheduling and forecasting materials to ensure production runs smoothly.
  • Production Schedules: Prepare and distribute weekly/monthly production schedules, ensuring all teams are informed of any deviations and changes.
  • Process Improvement: Create and improve processes and procedures to ensure accuracy and consistency in the schedules released to manufacturing.
  • Long-term Forecasting: Maintain long-term forecasting tools to review capacity versus demand trends, helping to anticipate future needs and challenges.
  • Internal Coordination: Review internal scheduling change requests and evaluate raw material availability to coordinate implementation with the appropriate teams.
  • Conflict Resolution: Assist in resolving production and raw material supply conflicts to minimize disruptions and maintain efficiency.
  • Production Planning: Develop forecasted production plans by assessing customer demand, manufacturing capacity, and resource availability.
  • Capacity Analysis: Analyze fabrication department capacity to determine outsourcing needs and ensure optimal use of resources.
  • Communication: Communicate internally and externally with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and customers to ensure smooth operations and address any issues.
  • Customer Service: Serve as a customer service representative to customers when needed, providing support and addressing inquiries.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of production planning or production scheduling experience in manufacturing.
  • Experience using an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system; knowledge of IFS is considered an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong accountability and responsiveness to production needs.
  • Strong analytical, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience reading/interpreting manufacturing drawings/blueprints is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Root Cause Analysis, and/or Six Sigma initiatives is highly desirable.
