Library Resource Assistant

The Library Assistant will be responsible for assisting our Literacy Resource Teacher (LRT) with the administration and organization of the Biidaaban Kinoomaagegamik library. The Library Assistant strives for accuracy, thoroughness, and neatness in all tasks and delivers excellent customer service to staff and students utilizing the library resources.

The Library Resource Assistant Trainee will work in conjunction with the larger Sagamok Student Support Program (SESSP) team and provide support to colleagues.

Duties:

  • Assist with the planning, organizing, delivering, and evaluating the library programs and services
  • Allocate resources to ensure effective and efficient operation of the library
  • Ensure the collection is properly maintained and organized and that an effective collection control system is in place
  • Act as a resource for students and teaching staff
  • Assign library cards, check books in and out, assist students with finding books and required titles
  • Train and use the Library Software to catalogue all books in the library
  • Organize returned library books/resources and shelf resources in the proper places
  • Assist with creating and setting up seasonal displays
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Note: as this is an on-the-job training opportunity, individuals must be able to identify in their covering letter how this position will assist with furthering their career aspirations.
  • Grade 12 Diploma
  • Computer skills with willingness to learn the job specific library program
  • Must have goodcommunication and interpersonal skills, with a pleasant and approachable demeanor
  • Must be mature, responsible, able to work independently and with minimal supervision, as required
  • Must be able to provide a clear Vulnerable Sector Search (CPIC) at the time of offer
  • Hold or willing to secure CPR and First Aid Certification
  • NOTE: preference will be given to individuals who qualify for the ISET Program
