JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Chief Estimator, and working closely with Project Managers, the Intermediate Estimator plays a key role in providing accurate cost estimates for various projects, with a particular emphasis on recreational facilities at all levels of drawing completion from Schematic Floorplans to full Tender drawings. This role requires a strong understanding of construction methodologies, budget management, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare accurate cost estimates for recreational facilities, commercial, and residential projects, including materials, labor, and timelines.
- Analyze project specifications, blueprints, and documents to determine scope and requirements.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and architects to develop comprehensive project bids.
- Identify and assess project risks and mitigation strategies related to cost.
- Conduct site visits to gather essential data and assess project conditions.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market trends, material pricing, and construction techniques.
- Prepare detailed take-offs and cost breakdowns.
- Assist in value engineering processes to provide cost-effective alternatives.
- Communicate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing.
- Present estimates and bid proposals to senior management for review and approval.
- Support post-bid negotiations and provide updated cost estimates as necessary.
WORKSKILLS:

- Ability to complete detailed takeoffs and related costing sheets.
- Ability to provide conceptual estimates from schematic drawings.
- Provide value engineering for cost revisions.
- Ability to multi-task with estimates at various stages conceptual, tender, etc.
- Broad knowledge of construction products and methods.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree or diploma in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in construction estimating, with at least 3 years of experience specific to recreational facility projects.
- Proficiency in estimating software (such as Procore, PlanSwift, or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and contracts.
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Familiarity with industry regulations, permitting processes, and municipal requirements in Calgary.
- Experience working on large-scale recreational facility projects such as sports complexes, community centers, or aquatic centers.
- Professional designations such as CEC or PQS certification.
- Knowledge of sustainability initiatives and LEED certification processes.
