Role Summary
Our guides are the foundation of our business and our renowned guest experience; we look to them to deliver safe, energized, and confidence-inspiring tours. A competent Ziptrek-trained guide is physically able to work long days outside in our beautiful old-growth rainforest while ensuring a high level of guest safety and experience. Our guides enable guests to focus on their individual experiences and a perfect combination of exhilaration and education in iconic natural environments.

What were looking for:
- Safety-oriented individuals with a passion for the outdoors. Minimizing risk is our #1 priority - fun is a close second
- A keen interest in environmental stewardship and enjoy teaching others about it daily
- Physically able to lift 80 lbs and work a labor-intensive job for up to 10 hours/day
- Team players, individuals who can put guest and team priorities above personal objectives
- You have your 16-hour first aid certification - or you can get it by the time you start
Main Duties
Safety
- Adhere to and maintain knowledge of all job-related protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct safe and confidence-inspiring tours; double-checking harness/connections, ensuring appropriate radio protocols are maintained, zipping in control at all times, and braking in accordance with Ziptrek safety standards.
Operations
- Manage efficient tour flows within the allotted time frame.
- Prepare equipment, retrieve harnesses, distribute helmets and build understanding around the correct usage of all components.
- Control equipment inventory, returning all harnesses and helmets into storage after use.
- Additional duties as required, often depending on the season.
Communication
- Maintain strong communication with Guest Services, coworkers, and Course Supervisors throughout the day.
- Create an inclusive environment for guests and coworkers through open and welcoming communication.
Guest Experience
- Greet groups on time and enthusiastically.
- Understand that each guest experience is their first and treat them as such.
- Uphold the highest level of customer service during every tour - from start to finish.
- Take ownership of customer needs and address any concerns before they become a problem.
- Teach ecological material in an interesting and factual manner, appropriate for each group.
- Engage and educate diverse guest demographics in the locations ecological story, guided by the Natural Step

Hours, Training & Benefits:
- On-call schedule with possible irregular hours - typical shift: 2-3 tours/day (booking dependant)
- We work in a seasonal town, our staff work hard in the Summer and book their holidays during the shoulder seasons (September - mid-December) - if you aim to take time off in July or August this role may not be the best fit
- Hourly wage starting at $20.50 per hour, $20.75 per hour after training is completed
- Hours fluctuate significantly during our seasons. Expect to work 28 to 32 hours per week from mid-April to mid-July, with an increase to an average of 35 to 40 hours per week from mid-July onwards.
- All job-specific training is done in house - over a 2 week period
