About the Role:
The Trauma program nurtures connection and safety in the caregiver-child relationship after experiencing trauma. Children and youth may come into the program via one of three streams: the Outpatient Trauma Clinic, the Trauma and Attachment Group (TAG) or Consultative Services.
The Mental Health Therapist will:
- Work with the CASA team and external supports to provide high-quality, trauma-focused mental health therapies to children, teens and families.
- Help caregivers with children with exceptional needs build specialized parenting skills.
- Formulate diagnoses as appropriate, using the DSM-5-TR and other diagnostic tools.
- Provide clinical input to Therapy Support Navigators providing case management and wrap-around care for patients and families.
- Conduct case management functions, including convening case conferences and liaising with CASA therapists and psychiatrists, community services and other professionals involved with the child and family.
- Coordinate consultation to others therapists or external partners as appropriate.
- Provide supervision or preceptorship for student placements.
- Contribute to staff knowledge and understanding of discipline-specific issues.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in psychology, social work (with psycho-social intervention designation) or occupational therapy.
- Current registration in good standing with a professional college identified under the Health Professions Act.
- A minimum of two years of clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions.
- Demonstrated ability to practice culturally-safe therapeutic interventions.
- Knowledge of and experience in supporting the healing of children and youth who have experienced trauma.
- Knowledge of and experience in bottom-up and top-down modalities is an asset.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
Conditions of Employment
- A satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
- Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA), as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
