Job Description

A Day in the Life:

PRT is seeking a full-time Operations Manager to be based in Quesnel, BC at PRT Quesnel. As a member of the local management team the Operations Manager has the opportunity to work with the most innovative conifer seedling producer in the industry with a focus on customer satisfaction and continuous improvement. Overseeing all aspects of greenhouse and open compound seedling operations the Operations Manager is required to lead and give direct supervision to the nursery team to ensure nursery efficiency. This includes, but is not limited to; sowing, thinning, lifting, blackout, cold storage & shipping. This position is responsible for directing personnel in accordance with operational work plans and cultural requirements, with a focus on employee productivity, record keeping, and ensuring both safe working conditions and quality standards are met.

Key Accountabilities of the Operations Manager:

  • Supervise greenhouse and open compound seedling production
  • Assist the Nursery Manager with planning and achieving production targets
  • Ensure proper maintenance of the facility and equipment
  • Finalize Inventory
  • Keep neat and accurate records
  • Manage labor force
  • Correspond with customers
  • Follow and enforce safe work practices
  • Encourage innovation and continuous improvement
  • Promote collaboration and teamwork at all levels
  • Set targets (i.e., production, timelines) and evaluate achievement

About the team:

The Operations Manager will lead a team of Nursery Workers and will report to the Nursery Manager at PRT Quesnel.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications & Skills:

  • A bachelor's degree or diploma in horticulture, agriculture, or forestry, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 or more years of horticulture or crop production experience
  • Experience in a leadership role
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Capability of performing manual work, both indoor and outdoor and in varying weather conditions
  • Proficient understanding of production processes, quality control principles, and safety regulations
  • Strong planning, organization, and time management skills
  • Good problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct a root cause analysis.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Robust computer skills with proficiency Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Work, Outlook)
  • Communicate with honesty, kindness and respect
