Director of Sales & Marketing
The Director of Sales & Marketing is responsible for leading the hotel towards the achievement of all sales and marketing goals. The Director of Sales & Marketing will participate in the preparation of the annual budget and prepare the marketing plan, identifying monthly goals, targets and the sales activities needed to achieve the targets. This position requires exceptionally strong communication and a collaborative approach with all hotel leadership team members and departmental teams, while sharing their flare for style and design.

Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the General Manager, the Director of Sales & Marketing will be responsible for:
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Sales, Marketing and Revenue aspects of the hotel, including working with the Sales, Marketing and Revenue teams (local and regional) to ensure the effective implementation of the hotels business strategies for the various market segments, resulting in achieving (or exceeding) the budgeted goals;
- Track and analyze the activities of the competition and the market, and the Hotel's position in the market and communicate significant changes to the General Manager;
- Work with the General Manager to create and implement a sales, marketing and revenue plan to ensure the annual budget is achieved (exceeded);
- Responsible to complete the Sales Plan budget for all expected expenses during budget season. Work with the General Manager to ensure budget is complete in a timely fashion and with accuracy.
- Responsible to work on top line revenue budget with General Manager and Revenue Manager, especially for all directly impacted segmentations – All Group, Corporate Business Travel, SMERF, GOV, FIT, Group Tour and Crew.
- Create a focus on attracting new business by assisting with the development and implementation of promotions, both internal and external;
- Lead on-property sales functions to build long-term, value-based customer relationships that enable achievement of hotel sales objectives;
- Oversee all incoming leads into the hotel and respond in a timely fashion. This includes all segmentations for any requests with group rooms attached.
- Allocate and discuss all Event only leads with the Sales & Events Coordinator for proposal
- Work closely with Fonda Fora to keep a healthy and productive relationship. Includes regular meetings to discuss upcoming business on the books or needs for clients. Ensure meeting packages and food & beverage offerings remain competitive in the market and stay fresh and up to date.
- Work closely with the Marketing Team of Silver Hotel Group (SHG) to ensure the agreed plan is being executed effectively to provide the Hotel with enhanced awareness;
- This includes monitoring the content plan for social media platforms and reviewing to approve on a monthly basis as well as providing any relevant information monthly to our third-party company so that all contents aligns with the Calgary market/industry
- Work with third party company to oversee our Influencer Marketing offers, paid content strategy and targeting the correct people to align with our brand and story
- Managing all programming for the hotel including special events, this includes the hotel's monthly series Tequila & along with one off events throughout the year. Includes setting up the different workshops, working with local vendors, setting dates and managing ticket sales.
- Manage special events at the hotel, including corporate client events and community events. Including hotel's annual charity event and working with local vendors to facilitate this to go live each year.
- Submit all assets for design work to our third party company in a timely fashion to ensure the hotel has everything needed to continue rolling out monthly programs. Reviewing asset design, completing edits and ensuring final assets are marketed/advertising
- Responsible for updating signage if needed in the hotel, including front desk posters, tradeshow banners or brochures, corporate flyers or any other printed/digital assets
- Understand the Koddi platform and actively monitor digital advertising budget amounts to ensure proper placement for travel ad spending and return on investment
- Work closely with SHG Revenue Management to ensure rates and promotions are current and competitive; update all necessary SRP's accordingly including inventory, rates and viewability.
- Participate in weekly revenue management calls, actively participate and evaluate monthly performance per segment.
- Evaluate STR reports and work with the team to understand periods/dates of need and what we can do to fill those
- Report on group bookings for all segments, where are we pacing in relation to our budget, what are need periods
- Review OTA performance when necessary, finding gaps for need dates and leaning on 3rd party relationships to fill those gaps
- Monitor and oversee rates and inventory loaded for SRPs, including all segments, GO Hilton Team Member Rates, Friends and Family, Industry Rates, Promotions etc.
- This includes close outs on inventory for blackout dates or any high demand periods
- Drive a culture of performance and high engagement with the Sales team and other departments through the development of recognition, training, professional growth and coaching;
- Participate in hotel leadership meetings and other sales-related meetings, training sessions or industry events
- Responsible to report back on financials and positioning within market at hotel leadership meetings
- Evaluate and drive the hotel's participation in the various sales channels, Market Sales, Event Booking Centers, electronic lead channels etc., OTA's and brand approved offerings
- Participate in sales calls with members of sales team to acquire new business and/or close on business;
- Ensure team members comply with hotel policies, health and safety procedures and acts as the lead in emergency response situations;
- Maintain and promote a team environment with effective and clear communication;
- Liaise with all supporting departments to ensure a seamless experience for our guests, ensuring our vision of passionate people creating exceptional experiences is at the forefront of every interaction;
- Professionally represent the hotel in community and industry organizations and events;
- Plan, coordinate, and help to execute the hotel's programming events to drive community engagement
- Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by the General Manager
What We Are Looking For...
- Minimum 5 years of Sales Leadership experience in a hotel environment;
- Diploma or degree in Hospitality Management or Business, is a definite asset;
- Understanding of Hilton Systems including GRO, OnQ, Salesforce/Delphi etc. is considered a strong asset
- Strong computer skills, with knowledge of Microsoft Office and Hotel Property Management Systems is essential;
- Organized, results orientated, proven time management skills and ability to work under pressure;
- Strong understanding of social media and exceptional communication skills, verbal and written;
- Revenue Management skills and past involvement in the revenue management process an asset;
- Demonstrates strong leadership, team, communication and coaching skills;
- Strong problem solving and creative thinking skills; Thrives in a fast-paced environment-maintaining composure and objectivity with guests and team members;
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
