Job Summary

As the Groundskeeper of Peace Portals facilities your role is to ensure landscaped property and interior of the church building is a clean and well-presented space that creates a compelling environment to be used for church ministry and community events. Your work will cover a range of tasks from exterior landscaping to interior custodial work and repair. In your work of landscaping, cleaning, maintaining, and providing care in the church facilities you are directly credited with supporting and enabling the ministries of Peace Portal church to function consistently and on an ongoing basis. You will ensure the safety and security of exterior and interior of the church facilities. In-house training will provide you with the confidence and resources you need to deal with any last-minute ministry requirements, emergencies, or equipment failures that may arise.

Responsibilities

Landscaping and Grounds Maintenance

- Performing regular landscaping tasks such as mowing grass, trimming, pruning, planting, weeding, and fertilizing.

- Ensuring that all exterior areas are kept clean and free of debris.

- Identifying and treating plant diseases and pests.

- Assisting with the distribution of soil, mulch, or compost around landscaped property.

- Providing winter maintenance to church grounds including snow removal by shoveling, salting sidewalks, and parking lot.

- Provide support to the maintenance of the church grounds as needed including sweeping, cutting grass, weeding, shovelling walkways in the winter, salting of sidewalks on and around the church property.

Cleaning and Facility Maintenance

- Support the routine cleaning and disinfecting of offices, classrooms, washrooms, and common areas. Wipe and disinfect countertops and clean interior and exterior windows.

- Assist in cleaning and maintaining kitchen cleanliness in alignment with the standards set for that room under food safety requirements as outlined.

- Perform room cleaning, organizing, and set up/tear down as required before and after ministry programs and events including basic audio/video setup.

- Remove garbage, recycling, and organic waste from the building to their appropriate bins.

- Actively supporting the minor maintenance and upkeep of the church building as needed: painting, exchanging lights, other minor repairs, etc.

Safety and Security

- Ensure premises are safe and secured, open and close the building and parking lot, ensure alarms are armed and disarmed when necessary.

- Perform work with a security mindset by reporting suspicious activity and ensuring rooms and resources are appropriately stored behind locked doors.

General Facilities Support

- Provide positive and helpful assistance to all groups and individuals using the facilities.

- Support the orderliness and safety of all storage areas.

- Ability to lift and transport objects up to 55 lbs.

- Other facilities-related tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Equipment Operation and Maintenance

- Operating and maintaining power equipment, manual tools, and including tractor.

Skills & Experience

- Demonstrates excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

- Previous custodial experience an asset though not required.

- Previous landscaping/custodial experience an asset though not required.

- Experience with minor repairs is beneficial, although training will be provided.
