Founded in Truro in 1920, MacQuarries Pharmasave operates 16 retail pharmacy locations across mainland Nova Scotia. MacQuarries has experienced significant growth in recent years and is adding a Director of Merchandising to the Senior Leadership Team to lead the buying and merchandising team for the company.
Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a centralized merchandising strategy to optimize product selection and improve margins.
• Lead the buying team, ensuring data-driven purchasing decisions.
• Manage vendor relationships, negotiate pricing, and optimize inventory levels.
• Oversee key product categories, including Health & Beauty, OTC Medications, Home Healthcare, and Seasonal & Giftware.
• Implement KPIs to track merchandising success and enhance financial performance.
• Collaborate with operations and store managers to align merchandising with customer demand.
• Act as a coach and mentor while developing new talent within the buying group
• Plan, forecast and report on performance of store and company performance as required by ownership and the COO
• Frequent travel to the 16 store locations.

Qualifications & Experience

• 7+ years in merchandising, retail category management, or purchasing.
• Experience in retail pharmacy, grocery, or health & wellness preferred.
• Strong leadership and analytics skills.
• Proficiency in retail analytics tools and category management software.
