Position Summary

As a Senior Estimator, you will work closely with our clients to provide a range of pre-construction services throughout the design and estimation phase. You will calculate possible costs and gains of construction projects. Your goal is to provide the company with accurate information that will support operations and strategic planning. Working with limited supervision under the direction of the Chief Estimator, you will lead a talented and supportive pre-construction department, where teamwork is at the forefront.

As a Senior Estimator your key accountabilities will involve:

• Preparing potential bid strategies for both negotiated and competitive tender projects of all sizes and types.
• Completing estimates on projects: project site visits, quantity take-off, pricing.
• Reviewing final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to formal quotation.
• Creating quick Order of Magnitude budgets, meaningful and achievable project schedules, elemental budgets, and trade quotes for the Chief Estimators review.
• Selecting metrics to produce valid estimates, analyzing data and producing forecasts
• Recognizing, assessing, and resolving areas of risk within a project (ie: exclusions, clarifications, and price adjustments).
• Liaising with other departments within Ventana during pre-construction to identify issues, delegate responsibility, and cost out site logistics items.
• Communicating with Project Managers during construction of successful bids to gain real time feedback on bid issues.
• Continuously managing trade tenders, trade qualification, preparation of scopes of work and tender analysis.
• Preparing and participating in presentations to clients, including final negotiations.
• Maintaining client relationships, including sourcing new work with existing clients.
• Developing new forms, approaches, and ideas to increase efficiency in the department.
• Mentoring and developing team members to maximize productivity, innovation, and teamwork.
• Performing additional assignments and researching to help further the knowledge base of yourself, the department, and the company.

As a Senior Estimator your success is dependent on:

As a Senior Estimator your experience and qualifications will include:

• Proven 5 years' experience as a construction estimator.
• Experience working in commercial, multi-family residential, industrial, and retail with various bid methods and types of head contracts
• In-depth knowledge of construction materials and techniques, the subtrades market, and insurance and bonding requirements
• Basic understanding of accounting and project management concepts
• Deep understanding of research methodology, data analysis and estimation metrics
• The ability to look beyond the plans to see the complete project scope and proactively seek opportunities for Ventana
• Tower experience is an asset
• Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or other qualification is an asset
