We are looking for a Head Bread Baker to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, creative and driven individual to build out our offerings, share their knowledge and experience and delight our clients' taste buds.

Meaty Eats is a specialty retailer that specializes in Fresh Organic Meats, charcuterie, and in-house Prepared Foods. We operate two locations in the GTA and are focused on quality goods, curated product selection, and customer experience.

In support of bakery operations, Bakers play a critical part in delivering our food service and culinary programs by preparing various baked breads and savory items, including various live cultured and yeasted breads.

A background in food service or hospitality, 2-3 years' experience working in a commercial/production kitchen or similar environment, a sincere respect for food, and a commitment to the highest food safety and quality standards will prove pivotal in fulfilling their duties.

Main Duties

  • Plan, implement, and manage daily operations
  • Prepare daily offerings & suggest new offerings
  • Prepare various top-tier goods such as sourdoughs, yeasted loaves, focaccias, ciabattas, and baguettes.
  • Monitor supplies and ingredients necessary for daily operations
  • Check quality of material and condition of equipment
  • Train, guide, and motivate assistants
  • Maintain a clean station
  • Adhere to health and safety standards
  • Keep abreast with the latest food and industry trends
  • Help train retail store associates on products, including talking points to assist in delivering a world-class shopping experience
  • Other duties as required

Requirements

  • Previous working experience as a Pastry Chef / Baker for 5+ years
  • Needs to lead the bread program
  • Certificate in culinary arts or similar relevant field
  • In-depth knowledge of sanitation principles
  • Complete knowledge of baking with ingredient limitations (pastries that are gluten-free, sugarless, etc.)
  • Physically capable of being on foot for an entire shift and can lift 50lbs
