Job Description

The County of Grande Prairie is currently seeking a Financial Services Summer Student!

The Financial Services Summer Student is responsible for assisting the Cash Control department through varied technical and administrative duties. This position will be a first point of contact with the public via our front counter reception and telephone. This position greets and directs customers, processes cash receipts, provides information on County services, and works closely with the Cash Control department and all other departments to provide excellent customer service. The Financial Services Summer Student works closely with the entire finance department and may be assigned special projects for completion over their term to expand their interactions with other departments within the County of Grande Prairie, workload and availability permitting.

Financial Support
• Providing visitors and callers with excellent customer service experience that includes taking payments, answering questions, and directing them to appropriate staff or department.
• Answering phone calls, voice mail and emails in a professional, courteous and timely manner, directing to appropriate staff or department.
• Sorting incoming and outgoing mail to ensure timely delivery.
• Entering and verifying financial data into accounting system.
• Undertaking cash receipting and answering account inquiries.
• Balancing and preparing bank deposits (as required).
• Preparing and balancing cash receipt batches of electronic payments.
• Inputting cheques into cash receipt system.
• Administering and balancing cash and general credit cards transactions.
• Creating online access profiles for users to order tax certificates.
• Supporting the Accounts Receivable department with invoicing and statements.

Reception Support
• Notifying/alerting appropriate staff of unusual, sensitive or emergency situations.
• Opening, date-stamping and distributing incoming mail and faxes including receiving and signing (goods received) for incoming courier packages.
• Processing outgoing mail through the postage meter.
• Replenishing postage stamp supply.
• Coordinating County map updates; monitoring and replenishing inventory.
• Preparing correspondence and filing as required.
• Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience
• Post-secondary Office Administration Diploma and experience working with office computers and business software; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Strong computer skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent problem solving and customer service skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organization skills.
• Ability to work as part of team, cross train, and remain flexible within a changing work environment.
• High degree of discretion, sound judgment and professionalism.
• Friendly demeanour and co-operative with the public.


Additional Information

Term Length: This position works Monday to Friday for 35 hours/week, from May 5 to August 29, 2025

Pay Rate: $24.95 to $29.36

Closing Date: This position will close March 17, 2025.
