Job Title: Mine Engineer
Reporting directly to the Technical Services Manager, Operations, the Mine Engineer is an intermediate working level professional contributing to open pit mining and construction activities for the Eskay Creek Revitalization project. The Mine Engineer will lead the integration of short range mine planning and drill-and-blast activities into mining operations to support the project.
Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Mine Planning & Design:
- Develop and communicate Drill-and-Blast designs to mine operations for seamless field execution.
- Lead the development of the Short-Range Mine Plan and Mine Waste Management Plan.
- Analyze mine key performance indicators (KPIs) and integrate adjustments into future plans to optimize performance.
Construction & Operational Support:
- Provide execution support for open-pit development, road construction, and other site development projects.
- Support the development of technical scopes, bid analysis, and recommendations for key tender packages related to mine construction and operational readiness.
Explosives & Inventory Management:
- Facilitate explosives procurement and manage inventory through regular communication with operations and suppliers.
Standards & Safety Compliance:
- Develop and implement engineering standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure best practices across mine operations.
- Foster a safety-first culture by ensuring strict adherence to Skeena's health and safety policies.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety guidelines, policies, and rules at the Eskay Creek site.
Additional Responsibilities:

The Ideal Candidate
Education / Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mine Engineering or other related discipline is required.
- P.Eng. designation with EGBC or Engineer-in-Training status working towards a P.Eng.
Experience / Skills
- Minimum 3-5 years Open-Pit mining experience (technical and operational), with increasing levels of responsibility.
- Demonstrated experience with flexibility and creativity in dealing with drill-and-blast, mine design, scheduling, production planning, and other complex technical challenges.
- Proficient with mine planning, design, and scheduling software packages – Deswik experience in preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and comfortable making recommendations.
- Capability to work in a self-directed manner and possess good time management skills.
- Demonstrated project management experience, with experience working on greenfield or brownfield start-up projects being considered an asset.
- Detail oriented with excessive attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Exhibits a high degree of responsibility for confidential matters
- Effective team player who can jump in wherever is needed
- Strong interpersonal and reasoning skills, with proven problem-solving abilities
- Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as with others
Work Location & Conditions
This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.
The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena's Travel Policy.
There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.
